Posted May 11, 200718 yr With the Biggest Selling album of last year worldwide, not reaching the 8 Million mark. (High School Musical) Are the days of Albums selling 20 Million + (LOADS) Over? :o Not that many acts have achieved the Feat, here's a few- The Beatles Pink Floyd Meatloaf Michael Jackson Madonna U2 Alanis Morissette Mariah Carey Britney Spears The Spice Girls. All of the above have had 20 Million Sales plus of a single album. Do you think an Artist can achieve anything like this in 2007-onwards?.
May 11, 200718 yr Author I agree, i really dont think anyone can achieve those sales. I think Britney was the last person to have 20 Million plus, which was around 1999-2000 i think. You have to be lucky to get 10 Million these days :P
May 11, 200718 yr Well not many people have done that anyway  Oh and I'm sure Shania Twain sold 34 million of Come On Over didn't she?

May 11, 200718 yr It would have to be something really derivative like everything mentioned bar the Beatles and Floyd. Also, is this in one year or over its lifetime? Either way I think due to over-promotion very few albums will become timeless.

May 11, 200718 yr I reckon someone will do it again its not impossible. Britneys comeback is soon HAHAH
May 11, 200718 yr She was 1997. so before Britney :P And i only put a few in the list, others have done it ^_^ 1999 you mean :P
May 11, 200718 yr You never know- it could be sooner rather than later! But i think the Internet hasn't helped!
May 11, 200718 yr It's really hard... I mean the last top sellers have been Eminem, Shakira (LS), and 50 Cent... Those artists sold over 14 millions... but I doubt we will see that again... And Usher did sell a lot in the UK and the US but he didn't reach those numbers
May 11, 200718 yr American Idiot must have come close seeing as it was in the worlds top 5 for two years running...
May 11, 200718 yr There may never be another, and its no bad thing - a lot of artists are selling 5 million-upwards, i think the success is spread more fairly these days. Sales are lower too, but still healthy.
May 11, 200718 yr ehm the biggest selling albums recently were: Breakaway/ X&Y 10.5 million, Back to Bedlam 11.5 million, American Idiot 13 million.. USHER's Confessions 15 million.. i think that the years of 20m+ sellers are def over. Reaching 10m these days is a very mega achievement. most albums will sell between 3-5 million copies every album that sells more must be seen as a MEGA success comparable to album that reached 20m 10 years ago. This era should be called POST USHER/ POST 2005 era. Until 2005 album sales of over 10m were achieveable now they are almost impossible.

The days of 20m are definatly over, even 10m is near impossible these days. For an album to sell 5m these days is an achievment. :(
