May 13, 200718 yr Thats as rubbish and misguided as saying that the Proclaimers are from Eng-er-land!!! They dont speak Spanish they speak Catalan like they do in Catalonia with most Catalans wanting to be seen completely separate to the Castillian Spaniards in Madrid just like Basque do. btw of the two princes/co-rulers of Andorra one is a bloke called Nicolas Sarkozy, you might have heard of him if you live in France  Are you teaching me a lesson about my own country? I do know the official language there is Catalan, but they all speak spanish, as french in some places. I've been there (you probably haven't) and many people living there are Spanish or feel like it. The official language in Catalonia is Spanish, being Catalan a co-official language. Have you lived there to know people's feelings about their nationality??? Not all the people there want to be independent but a minority of the population... the same thing as in Basque Country... It's quite funny how a foreigner thinks he knows more about my own country than me... I was just saying that it was quite shocking for all of us not to recieve a single point from them, mainly because of the twelve points the previous years.
May 13, 200718 yr The UK has done rubbish in the last few years because we have sent total novelty kitsche rubbish that is unrepresentative of the UK scene. The last time we sent a decent none gimmicky/cheesy/novelty song (Jessicca Garlick) we finished 3rd. well you not get any UK artist wanting to blow their cool for the sake of a contest like this Yes other countries musical tastes are different - For example Melanie C's First Day Of My Life single went to #1 in 6 European countries and went Top10 in 23 European Countries mainly in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia & the Balkans yet it failed to make the UK Top 75. Yet if you believe the British tabloids Mel C is a bitter ex-Spice Girl who is stopping her former band reforming whilst ignoring the fact that she has a very successful career in Europe as a music artist. however this is not just to do with musical tastes, its to do with licencing deals, the market reach, and the mentality of the audience (esp in the UK of wanting the new cool thing and that build them up trash em down thing)
May 13, 200718 yr maybe the only people who really really really take it seriously in the UK are the gay community though and so the thought was that they had to steer it towards a camp record? maybe barrowman was their voice of reason??? arent you both of Scottish originals though??? shouldnt you be sticking up for your countrymen  To the first point - so if it's mainly gay men watching it in Britain, tell me why The Ukraine didn't get the UK's 12 points - a total piece of G.A.Y. (as in the famous London gay nightclub...) fodder if ever there was.... Listen matey, Barrowman is NOT Scottish, he is a YANK.....  :P There is nowt that p!sses me off more than bloody born-and-bred Americans banging on about being "Irish" or "Italian" or "African" or whatever.....

Exactly, I mean, why should she want to go back to doing Spice Girls anyway...? She is enjoying far more success in Continental, Cenral and Eastern Europe, so naturally that is where she wants to focus her attention to, not just some stupid, pointless nostalgia trip to keep a bunch of ungrateful Brits who turned their back on her happy.... She's probably the one ex-Spice girl who has enjoyed the most success when you think about it, (what's Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B doing these days..? Bunton's attempts to revive a solo career met with complete indifference both here and abroad as I recall.. As for Victoria Beckham, what the hell is her contribution to music...?), and if we didn't think in such insular terms we'd recognise that fact that music does exist beyond over the English Channel...
May 13, 200718 yr Barrowman was born in Scotland but went to America at an early age (one I think :unsure) - close enough for me to be considered bred, not sure about born  Biography (it wiki but popular enough in Dr Who etc to be mostly right, you know those fanboys ) John Barrowman (born 11 March 1967 in Mount Vernon, Glasgow) is a Scottish American actor, musical performer, dancer, singer, and TV presenter who has lived and worked both in the United Kingdom and the United States. He currently lives in the UK. He became a United States citizen in 1985, and holds dual US/UK citizenship. Barrowman was born in Mount Vernon, Glasgow, where he spent the first eight years of his life. His mother worked in a record shop and his father worked for the Caterpillar heavy machinery company. In 1975 the family was relocated to America with his father's work[4]. He spent the next few years of his life in Joliet, Illinois, where his father was a manager at the Caterpillar tractor factory. Barrowman was graduated from Joliet West High School in 1985. While still in high school, he won parts in several musical productions while still a freshman. Between 1983 and 1985 he performed in productions of Hello, Dolly!, Oliver!, Camelot, Li'l Abner and Anything Goes. He attended university in San Diego, and returned to the United Kingdom in 1990.

The UK seems to have a different relationship to heratige acts than say Germany. Maybe the new rather nostagia thing is actually fulled by rado stations with their playlists and media rather than actual people. maybe people in the UK would want to buy Mel C records but dont get to hear her records blanket played on the radio???? btw did you see that Saxon thing Get Your Act Together, big in Germany type thing

May 13, 200718 yr Just thinking.. maybe ITV should organise an act next year instead of the BBC, I dunnow why, but I just think the quality and quality of the voting would be better..
May 13, 200718 yr Just thinking.. maybe ITV should organise an act next year instead of the BBC, I dunnow why, but I just think the quality and quality of the voting would be better.. Agreed - ITV would invest a LOT to try and get a quality act to represent us. I would miss having Wogan though :( And ad breaks :puke2:
May 23, 200718 yr if it is just neighbour voting how did Finland win last year?or we lost almost every year:)))))
May 23, 200718 yr as the UK funds the whole event... I wonder if they'd hate us less if we withdrew all our money from it?
November 23, 200717 yr I can name maybe 3 songs that I hated more than Scooch's: Turkey, Ireland & Croatia The 2 countries that would never get out of the top 15, no matter the crappyness of their entries, are Turkey and Armenia, because of the damn diaspora :banghead: PS. Whoever called Balkan countries gay, since when is happiness a bad thing? :cheer:
November 23, 200717 yr PS. Whoever called Balkan countries gay, since when is happiness a bad thing? :cheer: Grimly meant G.A.Y as in the famous nightclub, which Ukraine's entry this year would've suited very much ;)

Whoever called Balkan countries gay, since when is happiness a bad thing? :cheer: Thank you for saying you didn't like Turkey. I was starting to think I was the only person who didn't like that song. It sounded like a Backstreet Boys song from the late 1990s. I was really mad when UK gave them the 12 points. Btw, who is voting for Armenia in all these western European countries? Are there really that many immigrants from Armenia in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands?
