Rubbish, the tabloid press spout the most evilly racist garbage in this country, an utter disgrace to our nation... And, you're wrong anyway, I've seen posters on buses and tubes for kids as young as 6 or 7, you don't know what you're talking about mate, I

But are those 6/7-year-olds believed to have been abducted?

My mate's granddad was on the police force for years, and he said he'd never, repeat NEVER, heard of a 3-year-old being abducted before, from any race, gender or class.

Plus, only one of the Soham girls was blonde (I can't remember which one it was) and I'm not even sure they actually were both from middle-class backgrounds... and even this very story about Madeleine hit the news before the media were widely aware of the parents' jobs. I remember hearing it on the radio the morning after, and they didn't mention that the parents were doctors...

And the tabloid press are racist? Sorry, isn't this the same tabloid press that crucified Jade Goody earlier this year just for being slightly racist?

Were those 1200 abducted? My guess is the vast majority ran away...

Does it matter ? those kids have parents they have families they have relatives and I bet their families are feeling every bit as much pain as the McCann's right now but where is the "fighting funds" and mass hysteria websites for these 1200 kids ??

I heard of a case the other day where a 18 month old baby was taken from the front garden. That was years ago.

I do not believe that no one aged around 3 has never been abducted before. People even snatch new born babies.

Yeah, and next month or so, they'll be helping to resurrect her career mate... It's a simple case of Media jumping on a bandwagon there......

Christ, does that even fukkin' MATTER?????? Kids are missing, surely this is the most important factor here..... <_< Any Copper worth their salt is gonna treat a 6 or 7 year old going missing as a possible abduction...... I also had a relative on the Police force... And when was your mate's Grand-dad on the force anyway...? In the 60s or 70s...??

And AGE doesn't/shouldn't matter either, I think I already established that point too.....

Jesus mate it should not matter whether they are blonde hair / dark hair / no hair, black / white / yellow, blue eyes / no eyes, doesn't matter if they are photogenic or have 2 fukkin heads and 3 eyes they are still HUMAN BEINGS with FAMILIES and the media should be giving them ALL the same coverage and same attention and exposure regardless of whether they are abducted or not but they don't because they think blonde haired blue eyed little girls are some sort of master race and it is bloody offensive and disgusting that the media think Madeleine's life is worth more than any child pisses me off no end and shames this country !

As for the press not being racist surely you are on a wind up ? have you not seen the demonisation of muslims that goes on in The Sun for instance and similar in terms of blacks ? oh please mate look beyond Page 3 and you will see racism galore. The Sun only got on the Jade Goody bandwagon to sell papers and jeez their sister paper the NOTW paid Jade to sell her fukkin sob story !

Actually, wasn't it the case that MORE than one newspaper described Madeleine as "pretty, blonde Madeleine....".... Hardly necessary seeing as how they had a bloody huge photograph of her (in COLOUR) taking up pretty much the WHOLE front page..... <_<

Yeah exactly

The whole thing reminds me of about 5 years ago in America where there was a young blonde beauty pageant girl of not much older than Madeleine who was abducted then found murdered and American media gave it wall to wall coverage as if the president had been assassinated yet black, asian and hispanic kids going missing or being murdered gets bugger all media coverage, this whole Madeleine case reminds me of the media coverage of that event, again little blonde girl

And the Daily Mail might as well change its name to the Daily Madeleine -_- went to buy some sweets earlier and the Mail had Madeleine's face plastered all over the front with more than 1 page of coverage and pictures inside of her, it really is pathetic the amount of pages and headlines that are STILL devoted to her

Yeah, the whole Jonbenet case, the US media still obsesses over that one to the point of almost fetishising it.... Quite distasteful really.... <_<

Someone actually confessed to that recently, but it was quickly discounted by cops... Guy's a bit of an attention-seeking mental case apparently... Didn't stop the press from going nuts over it though, so, he got the attention he wanted..... I doubt he'd've even made page 27 if he'd "confessed" to killing a black or hispanic girl.... <_<

Yeah that's the case, couldn't remember her name but America media was and still is obsessed with the case in the same way as Britain media is with Madeleine, it will get worse too :manson:

If she is not found by Christmas I can see a "light a candle for Madeleine this christmas" campaign starting up in the tabloids with her face splattered about every tabloid every day and there will be sob story interviews with the parents about how they cry all night because there is one less stocking on the wall and so on while at the same time the tabloids will forget every other missing kid at xmas who's families and parents will be feeling the same way :manson:

The media's whole purpose is to inform people of events like this, and the fact people are begrudging them for doing a good thing (whether their intentions are good is another thing, but it's undeniable tehe best chance of Madeleine being returned lie in intense media coverage) astounds me...

Yes, the intent of the media is to 'inform', not 'obsess' not to make judgement calls as to who is the most "worthy" of attention, not to turn everything into a fukkin' circus.... Why isn't the media 'informing' me of kids going missing in my OWN BLOODY NEIGHBOURHOOD then....? Why is the first time I see anything about a kid going missing in my area it's on a sodding BUS shelter....????

And frankly, I wonder whether this sort of insane coverage is really doing any good at all... Has she been found..? Is every single story printed actually helpful to the police - some tit in Morocco sees a blond kid and assumes it's Maddie. How much resources wasted chasing up that blind alley.....? The sort of intense media hype and hysteria you have atm makes people act stupidly... How much time got wasted over this whole Murat thing..? And just how many nut jobs are ringing up the police claiming that they abducted Madeleine because aliens/god/Michael Jackson (delete as appropriate) told them to do it....?

I'm sorry, but let's have a bit of balance here, yeah...? And maybe some media resources could be diverted to calling attention to other kids going missing... Whaddya say...?

Actually, I think having her "spirited away" in a foreign country is in many ways a better plan and easier to execute... Personally, if I was of the mind to do something like that, it would be as far as possible from my own backyard where everyone knew me....

Exactly! Especially in a country where the police are so relaxed, they hardly seem arsed about the whole thing. I think the parents have shot themself in the foot though by admitting the kids were in an unlocked room; theyd have been better to say it was locked, and then broken the lock themselves so as not to look quite so irresponsible.

However, at least now the public can see just how bad their parenting is.

Exactly! Especially in a country where the police are so relaxed,

Well, before you start to criticise the Police in other countries mate, take a look at our own first and the sheer farce that was the "investigation" into the death of Stephen Lawrence; and just how long did it take the cops to secure a conviction in the Damilola Taylor murder case.....? Another botched job there too, with the break-down of first trial because the Police fukked things up....

Uh, you've actually just contradicted yourself, because that "young blonde beauty pageant girl" JonBenet became almost a hate figure in America. It mainly got wall-to-wall coverage because people were disgusted that the mother had entered her in for so many beauty pageants at such a young age... the coverage was all totally fascination rather than sympathy, which shows that the media doesn't give unconditional support to "pretty young blonde girls".

But anyway, this is besides the point. of course there is a difference between running away and being abducted! If you run away, that's generally been your choice... there are obviously some exceptions to that, but nevertheless, that can not be said for any type of abduction. Plus, if all kids who run away got media coverage, as there are so many, people would grow to simply not care about any of them... I'm not saying that's necessarily right, but it's a fact of the matter. Regardless, race just doesn't come into it with the reporting of these types of things...

they hardly seem arsed about the whole thing.

How? Isn't this the biggest investigation in Portuguese police history?

I'm guessing from your posts in this thread, you really don't know much about the story at all.

Um, just because i disagree with you?

Could it be the fact that after that Swedish or whatever couple sighted the girl supposedly in Morocco, they refused to take it seriously?
