Posted May 20, 200718 yr Shaznay admits All Saints regrets Sunday, May 20 2007, 11:14 BST Digitalspy.com By Daniel Kilkelly All Saints star Shaznay Lewis has admitted that the group did not try hard enough to pick up new fans with their comeback material. The singer explained that record company Parlophone was too complacent and mistakenly believed that the band's reunion would be as successful as Take That's. "It was almost like the record company thought how easy it was for Take That, let's just put the album out and it will be a huge hit," Shaznay told the Daily Star Sunday. "It didn't work like that. Then it was hard because everybody was comparing our comeback with Take That's. "Looking back, we should have built up a new fan base with our new singles rather than relying on our old fan base." All Saints were dropped from Parlophone when their album Studio 1 only stayed in the top 40 for one week, but the group have vowed to carry on making music. Do you agree with Shaznay or not?
May 20, 200718 yr Wasn't All Saints comeback done before Take That's? How oculd they compare it if Take That hadn't came back at that point lol. I do kind of agree with her, they didn't really have a core fanbase when they returned and they did need to rebuild it. It's ashame it didn't work for them as "Rock Steady" was a good tune :)
May 20, 200718 yr Considering how badly All Saints stiffed, it's hard not to agree with Shaznay.... But frankly I dont think it's got anything to do with them trying to "do a Take That"... They stiffed because no one's interested, they're yesterday's news.....
May 20, 200718 yr yes. their material was very weak compared to their previous stuff. all saints are known for their ballady type songs ("pure shores", "never ever", "black coffee", etc) so they should have came out with something like that too, not no "girls aloud" rip off songs, like a lot of people were saying.
May 20, 200718 yr It was a really weak comeback i gotta say which is why they didnt sell there older stuff is much much better I wonder when we will hear new stuff from em again..
May 20, 200718 yr Considering how badly All Saints stiffed, it's hard not to agree with Shaznay.... But frankly I dont think it's got anything to do with them trying to "do a Take That"... They stiffed because no one's interested, they're yesterday's news..... I think the problem was that the people involved with the project assumed that it would be easy to get the interest, as there was for Take That, except it wasn't easy for them. Thyeir PR machine had been rolling for a year before they released their new album. They'd had the documentary, and all the hype building up to that, then the re-released Greatest Hits, then the new tour all tapping back into their old fan-base, impressing the people who hadn't paid that much attention first time round and gaining a place in the centre-stage of the entertainment industry all before they had even announced their new single and album. All Saints assumed their previous reputation was enough, and Rock Steady was a great song, but their image wasn't working. They didn't connect with their old audience, never mind any new fans. They should have released two singles before the album, and most crucially, they should have looked eager to be back, and been a bit more amenable to the people in the press. They looked like we should be grateful to have them, and tv and radio interviewers were lucky to get them as guests.
May 20, 200718 yr Their material was not bloody weak. That album was one of the best of 2006! well i feel it was weak in comparison with their previous efforts. :P
May 20, 200718 yr This album was the best they've done yet but i totally agree with her. The record company did rely on the old fan base and didn't really pick up any new fans. So pleased they've decided to carry on though. I hope they're picked up by another record company soon!
May 20, 200718 yr Studio 1 was rather weak if you ask me  Rock Steady is the only stand out track, nothing else on there was really single material
May 20, 200718 yr "Scar", "Flashback" and if promoted well enough "Chick Fit" were all single material if you ask me. Edited May 20, 200718 yr by Keisha's Boi
May 20, 200718 yr I agree with her, but i find the album pretty good IMO. Glad they're still together though :D
May 20, 200718 yr They came back with poor material imo, I didn't like Rock Steady or Chick Fit, they didn't re-connect with their old fanbase at all, they alienated them (and me) by trying to be rocky pop chicks, the fans wanted more Never Nevers and Pure Shores.
May 20, 200718 yr I hope they get another label and are able to carry on. I really liked the tracks they released for their comeback.
May 20, 200718 yr I've always said only Boyzone, Take That or The Spice Girls would be able to pull off a successful comeback out of all those 90s pop bands. Pop music was at it's high in the late 90s/early 00s. So many different groups to put on your wall and collect every single they put out. The All Saints album was dull - they had Girls Aloud/Sugababes rip-off songs and spent half the time slagging off Girls Aloud to try and make themselves look like they were still the top girl band. I hate Girls Aloud's egos normally but HA that they had a huge top 3 single and #1 album last year whilst those stupid whores flopped and can now bog off back to Tescos.
May 20, 200718 yr I have to admit I loved their album and it was among my favourites of last year, a real pop gem. It deserved much more success. :(
May 20, 200718 yr ^Thankyou, somebody who is talking sense! So many of you are slagging off Studio 1, I wonder how many of you actually listened to it? A lot of electro-reggae type songs, and some similar electropop -type stuff has actually been flavour of the month here on Buzzjack lately.
May 20, 200718 yr Studio 1 was excellent...I saw one of their only live performances I presume at the Radio 1 chartshow live...they performed Rock Steady, Scar, Black Coffee and Pure Shores and it was brilliant! Scar, Headlock, Rock Steady, Chick Fit and On & On were absolutely great songs so I don't understand how anyone could call the album weak...
May 20, 200718 yr Their material was not bloody weak. That album was one of the best of 2006! AGREED! :cheer:
May 20, 200718 yr I got bored half way through "Studio 1". Though I did think Chick Fit was very good. ^_^
