i saw it today and i liked it, altho it did last for about 2 and half hours

i'd say its worth watching, but i usually love the films which most people hate so dont take my word for it

Saw this at the weekend... Absolutely marvellous piece of film-making... Complex, thought-provoking and intelligent, very precisely plotted and it put across its theories with a real convicition... So what if you don't really find out who Zodiac was, it's pretty bloody obvious who he was anyway and the film makes that very clear, it DOES have a solution, it DOES have a finale.. The final coda is both under-stated, yet incredibly powerful, a coming of full circle, the film begins and ends with the first known victim, first as a young man full of hope and then as a broken middle-aged man who can barely walk.. The changes to the main characters are quite startling as well, at turns they become obsessive, paranoid, depressed and down-trodden by the whole thing, these four men who investigated the Zodiac killings in a sense themselves become victims of the killer without the Zodiac even having to fire a shot to destroy them. He destroys these men's very souls, full marks to all the actors concerned, but special mention has to go to Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr, frankly amazing character acting from both concerned (mind you, Downey Jr is ALWAYS bloody amazing, so no real surprise there to be honest... ), but this is not to downplay the contribution from Anthony Edwards (very understated, a very difficult character to play, but he did it so bloody well) and Mark Ruffallo as the cop who just wont give up the chase, both of whom were outstanding also, I really wouldn't like to have to choose between those guys for a Best Actor Oscar... Director David Fincher has crafted a superb piece of modern cinema, and frankly I doubt you're gonna see a better Hollywood film this year than "Zodiac".... If this doesn't show up in the Oscars next year, then Hollywood can go fukk itself....

10/10

It is a bit long though

Oh for goodness sake, do you complain about the Harry Potter films lasting over two and a half hours, or the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" which lasts almost THREE HOURS.....? "Zodiac" is as long as it is because it HAS to be, simple as... You're talking about a film which spans a time-line from 1969 to 1991 and gives out detailed, factual evidence taken from actual investigation files.... NOT the sort of thing you can just knock out in 90 minutes, I think you will agree, yes....?

This is not fluff, nor is it a "blockbuster", and it certainly is not Teen-fodder... This is serious, adult film-making....

Actually I do complain about the Harry Potter, POTC and LOTR films :P

But if its 2.5 hours of good viewing then I don't mind ^_^

I saw one of those 'straight to DVD' efforts last year. I think it was called 'The Zodiac Killer'. It was the same story as this Film. But without the A-List cast obviously.

I'm going to watch this film but I may buy the DVD when it comes out rather than go to the cinema. I like going to the pictures to see all the daft blockbusters but I actually prefer watching the more intelligent, thought provoking films at home. Call me strange. I just do.

I can kinda understand that in a sense tbh... I mean, it's a bit of a lottery what sort of crowd you'll be stuck in.. The more intelligent films/foreign language/arthouse films should attract a more discerning crowd, but all too often your concentration and immersion in the film is totally fukked up by some arsehole's mobile phone going off... <_< Doesn't matter so much if it happens in some dumb-ass block-buster, but is bloody fatal when dealing with a more arty, complex or subtitled film.... I vividly remember being stuck in a cinema in the West End watching the original Japanese version of "Ju-On: The Grudge" with a bunch of fukkin' Chav arseholes who obviously thought they were going to see another stupid Teen Horror flick, and they just would not SHUT THE FUKK UP!!!! Or stop messing around with their mobiles, texting friends and so on... Totally ruined the experience for me, I got real p!ssed off and demanded my money back... Then I watched it on DVD at home on surround sound and my widescreen telly, in the dark on my own in the flat... Scared the fukkin' sh!t outta me far more than it ever would've in a Cinema whatever the crowd I reckon.....

Yeah it was a cool piece of film making (even though i suppose loads of people were a bit 'is that it??' at the 1990s bit at the end) with a cool soundtrack (i think that might be an ost to look out for, some good tunes from the 1960s and 1970s on there). Another great Robert Downey Jr perf (however theres a little part of me who would have liked 'the Muffalo' to have played Inspector Toschi as Peter Falk  ) and Dermot Mulroney was so right for his role (good to see him not in another Wedding date type film)

Only thing i didnt like was the bit at the beginning with the Zodiac's being show terrorizing the couple as the costume was slightly uncool and looked like the film could go into Daredevil territory at this point. Think they could have kept this out of it but i suppose if he was revealed later this would be getting even more comparisons with se7en.

Also at this point it didnt help that i watched that show about Tiswas the night before as my mind drifted onto an alternative plotline where bankrupt comedian Jim Davidson was going around ultraviolently killing people as the Fanton Flang Flinger and when Zodiac was stabbing people in the back expected a custard pie in the face as well. Managed to get my mind back on the story thankfully after a short bout of giggling.

yeah man i know what you mean but i dont think that you just gotta be critical of this demographic, old ladies should be banned from films as well esp when they cant follow the plot and have to shout to their fellow biddy next to them to see whats going on and also take 5 hours to crawl to the back of the theatre.

then again if you're gonna loads of times with your cineworld pass you get to know what times to go to get a good seat (or to avoid the crowds). for eg dont go see blockbuster on a Sat as it will be kaos and something like a Bollywood film is good on a friday in a big Muslem area.
