Posted April 21, 200619 yr Robbie's ruining our wedding day! THE UNHAPPY couple – Milton Keynes Today A CITY couple may have to scrap the dream wedding they have been planning for two years...because of pop star Robbie Williams! Ellen Hartill and Carl Atkins tried to put the finishing touches to their September 16 wedding at St Thomas' Church in Simpson by arranging hotel rooms for their 70 guests from far and wide. But the Simpson couple are now considering calling off the whole thing after claiming they have been quoted inflated hotel prices up to THREE times the standard rate – because hotel bosses believe Robbie will be performing at the National Bowl from September 14-19. Ellen, aged 28, said: "All my family are coming down from the Isle of Wight and Carl's family from Dover, but they can't afford the £159 per night we are being quoted. "We've got to start looking at hotels outside of Milton Keynes and hiring a coach but if it comes to it, I'm going to have to cancel. "My argument is that Robbie is probably not even going to be here, so for them to charge so much has got my back up." Robbie, a big hit at the Bowl in 2001, has been tipped to replace his cancelled gigs at the new Wembley Stadium with five shows at the Bowl. A Bowl spokesman said: "The hotels are trying it on, basically. "We are still talking to Robbie's management company but it looks more likely that he's going to Cardiff. "We're trying really hard to get him but it's all ground to a halt at the moment. We might know next week one way or the other."The Citizen contacted several hotels and was quoted increased prices at all due to a 'special event in the area that week'. A spokesman for a major hotel chain, who quoted us £150 for a room on September 16 instead of the standard £80, added: "For everyone to put their prices up so far in advance, the event must definitely be going ahead." Still 50/50 on where his concerts are going. Toss up and take your choice. I thought I had the scoop of the year LOL I never been a gambler myself. So I am still sitting on the fence on the M4.
April 21, 200619 yr It's a bit of a hike from London to Cardiff isn't it? Particularly for all those who have booked hotels in London. Maybe he'll lay on a special 'Robbie Express' to whisk them all to Cardiff. :) But at least there will be seats if it's Cardiff and not MK. It's difficult to know what's best. Whatever option they pick there will be disgruntled people.
April 21, 200619 yr Good point jupiter - not exactly handy for those London hotels is it lol! I'd be quite happy with Cardiff - great venue - but as I was meant to be going with my daughters on the first night and then with friends on the next 2 nights, I have no idea how I would manage it! I think it would be a case of several trips along the M4 and lots of Red Bull :cheer:
April 21, 200619 yr I wonder what bookings are like at the hotels in Cardiff - I imagine many people making speculative bookings have gone for both <_< I don't know what I want.* If it is Cardiff then I would only be able to get to the Saturday, as much too far from work / school. *yes I do. I want Wembley Stadium in September
April 21, 200619 yr Thanks for helping our Post Count Dory. :P That's the way to go about it.... How long does it take to drive from London to Cardiff?
April 21, 200619 yr Not really. Where's Basingstoke? It doesn't affect me you understand. I'm going to Hampden I am concerned about my fellow RW fans though. Rock DJ/Dory while you're on can you vote in our B Sides Survivor? It's been going on since Adam was a lad.
April 21, 200619 yr It does confirm that I can't leave work at 5 and get to a concert in cardiff on time as I could for Wembley :(
April 21, 200619 yr lol jupiter - will vote there in a minute! Basingstoke is about an hour south/west of London - 30 minutes from Reading! I drove to Cardiff for the Tsunami gig and I remember it was exactly 3 hours. It's not a difficult drive though - it's literally one road all the way!
April 21, 200619 yr Yip. That will be a problem for loads of people won't it?. Bet the 'stomach bug, migraine, flu' statistics will be high in workplaces those days.
April 22, 200619 yr I am not too badly placed for either London or Cardiff, and I would hope its the Millenium Stadium rather than MK. So I am hoping its true. Although I still think he should open at Wembley at some point. :) I know Robbie do this years tour at Cardiff and do a one off special for TV at Wembley Stadium next year, hows that. April 25, 200619 yr Author I know it must be very worrying for you Twinkle. I really don't know what the best direction is to take for Robbie. I would love him to hold off for Wembley. But I don't think that is an option. Very tough decision making will be in progress this week I would think. We have got to hear soon.
April 25, 200619 yr I wouldn't mind him holding off for Wembley either B) ;) It would just mean two trips to London then..... But if the gigs are taking place in September I hope it will be (someplace near) London!!!!!
April 25, 200619 yr And here's why we're even discussing MK or Cardiff  From the BBC website Wembley builders in court battle A bitter legal dispute between the builder of the new Wembley stadium and one of its principal sub-contractors has gone to court in London. Australian firm Multiplex and British business Cleveland Bridge are suing each other for alleged breach of contract on the troubled project. The Darlington firm left the project in 2004 after a row with Multiplex and is seeking damages for lost earnings. Multiplex partly blames its former partner for delays to the stadium. Multiplex is suing Cleveland - which built the stadium's centrepiece £60m steel arch - for up to £38.5m in damages while Cleveland is counter-suing, seeking up to £22.5m. The hearing, at the Technology and Construction Court in London, is expected to last at least four weeks. The contractual dispute is one of a host of setbacks which the £757m prestige project has encountered. The stadium was originally due to have been completed in August 2005 but its handover date has now been pushed back to September, leading to many events, including this year's FA Cup Final, being rescheduled. Bet they're still in Court 10 years from now....
April 25, 200619 yr Does this mean that there is still a chance that it will be ready in September
April 25, 200619 yr Yeah, a chance. Little Chance or No Chance. <_< Really don't know what's happening Twinkle. It's strange how long it's taking to make an announcement. Maybe they know something about Wembley the rest of us don't.
April 25, 200619 yr That's what I'm hoping for to be honest.... I would love to come back to London a second time to see him there
