I just watched this. I think it was an ok film, the special effects and make-up seemed a bit poor, but I suppose it was good for it's day (1981). I would give it about 7 out of 10, I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like blood and gore. It doesn't really get going until 35 minutes through and I didn't find it scary at all, some of it was so cheap it was laughable. I don't know why but some bits reminded me of Childs Play, maybe because they wouldn't die and at some bits the zombies/monsters looked like dolls with wigs on and not very realistic. The ending was very sudden and unexpected.

I don't want to give too much away incase anyone hasn't seen it and would like to, so this is the plot outline I got from imdb.com : 'Five friends go up to a cabin in the woods where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.'

Has anyone seen it and would like to say what they thought of it?

the third one is alright, however i suppose if you like horror more than fantasy you will be disapointed as its much in ther later category than the former. also it depends which ending you are watching (same with the butterfly effect the directors cut was better, if only this was true of most ashton kutcher films   )

Seen both endings for it, c**p and c**p. I mean at the end of evil dead 2 the knights hail Ash (Bruce Cambell) and at the start of 3 they make him a prisoner, try to keep to the story FFS.

if they tagged on Ashton Kutcher's death would that be better   ?

I first saw Evil Dead when I was 10 years old and it absolutely terrified me. I mean it SCARRED me. I had nightmares about it so consistently that my parents took me to a child psychologist once!!!! SERIOUSLY.

Of course having seen it many times since then, I can now recognize how cheesy and ridiculous it is. And yes, cheap! if you play the scene where the cellar door pops open in slow motion, you can see the hand pushing it up. If you look closely at any scene where the moon is shown up above the cabin, you can see it was clearly added in (and rather poorly).

But it still holds a special place for me. it was the first movie to really scare me and got me into the horror genre and such.

As for the sequels, Evil Dead 2 is just ridiculous and Army of Darkness is a completely different type of film altogether.

Thankfully this is not the situation now!!!

I thought it was pretty rubbish, I found it more funny than scary to be honest.

most horror films out at the moment are not in anyway scary, and so it's good when they are funny.

cant wait for slither!!!

is this worth getting? i've got a cheap dvd of the film already, but as a replacement? should i wait for an even better version?
