Kids could be banned from watching Lord of the rings and Bond films, because they depict smoking.

The new Scottish executive is considering giving "18" certificates to any movie which depicts smoking. It means only adults could legally watch any of the Lord of the rings films (currently a 12 certificate).

Even the new Simpson's movie could be affected because one of Bart's aunts smokes.

Should this become law or burried in an ashtray.

Frankly I've never heard such utter fukkin' NONSENSE in all my born days...... <_< <_< So, does this mean that if a repretory cinema wants to show, say a 1940s Humphrey Bogart or James Cagney Film Noir, then it has to bar under 18s from entry, even though many of these films are PG certificate....? Alfred Hitchcock films, Billy Wilder films, all gonna get an 18 certificate when they're on sale on DVD just cos they have actors smoking.... Absolutely unbelievable.....

Political Correctness and the Nanny State gone totally over the edge..... <_< <_< I just KNEW that this banning smoking from Pubs was going to be the thin end of the wedge, and now this just proves my whole point really...... Utterly detestable and barmy.

Next they'll be digitally editing out ALL the smoking scenes from every 40s, 50s, 60s film... Just you wait.... Cultural Vandalism is alive and well and living in Scotland..... Shameful....

Just as a side-bar to this, did you know that several Councils are actually attempting to bar their Council House tenants from smoking IN THEIR OWN HOMES?????? THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY PAYING FUKKIN' RENT FOR?????? Outrageous..... <_< <_<

Good grief!

much as I loathe smoking - even I think that is absolutely ridiculous :o

But look on the bright side, I'll be able to go to the pictures without a screaming brat in sight!

Quick, get Harry Potter lighting a fag. :w00t:

its pathetic. smoking is very populer and is hardly the worst thing in the world. couldnt agree more with your post

There are some absolute f***wits in the Scottish Parliament. This has to be the worst ever idea. Can the instigators be given an official warning and told to get on with some serious issues?

Agreed, a total waste of Parliamentary time.... It just beggars belief and makes Scotland look like an utter laughing stock.... <_<

As much as I hate smoking, this is ridiculous.

Exactly.... IMO, it has nowt to do with smoking, it's pure 'Censorsh!t' this is.... Haven't they even considered that most of the films made in the 30s, 40s and 50s heavily feature people smoking.....? What they gonna do, STOP the BBC from showing "Casablanca" or "The Maltese Falcon" during the day because some kiddie might watch it.....?
