Does Putin think by flexing his muscle Russia will gain more respect from the rest of the world. A country that still has corruption at the heart of it and freedoms not what they seem, can Russia afford to build up its nuclear arms to threaten Europe. He already controls the gas most of Europe depends on.

Is the US nuclear defence shield any threat to Russia?

Is this Cold war 2?

This is a very good point you are bringing up actually... Because here we are TOTALLY focussed on this "War On Terror" nonsense, and being determined to make enemies out of just about every single Arab in the Middle East after our disastrous invasion of Iraq (where there were precisely NO Weapons of Mass Destruction), that we've totally forgotten about the fact that Mad Vlad, The Butcher of Chechnya is in charge of enough Nukes to destroy the planet about ten times over..... Makes Abdul and his Rucksack on the Tube seem a bit pathetic now doesn't it.....?
It seems Bush and Putin have resolved this, and there is now talk of a joint defence sheild. So hopefully no Cold War 2.

Whether they've solved this particular issue or not is pretty irrelevant, Putin is a tyrant, a murderer and a Fascist who has his political opponents killed or incarcerated (hey, a bit like our old buddy Saddam......) There WILL be some point of real conflict in the future with this man, you mark my words... If not over this, more than likely over oil or gas supplies... And it sure as hell wont be as easy a "fix" to solve it as regime change....

Putin is VILE but he is only allowed 2 terms and his 2nd term ends next year

i heard he's looking into amending the constitution so he can serve a 3rd term, whose going to stop him.

i dont blame the russians creating their own sheild if the yanks were to deploy missiles within easy striking distance from them...

In a sense you're right, but it doesn't really alter the fact that Putin is an incredibly dodgy piece of work (to put it mildly).... Of course America is certainly partly to blame for ratcheting up tensions here...

Putin seriously worries me as well. All the liberalisation of the 80s and 90s seems to be going into reverse.
