hasnt Gwen's '4 In The Morning' made an Appearance in the Top 100 yet? :(

Its not been released to itunes yet, so only the album version is there.

Well theres no advert for an album track so downloads dont really take off til an advert for 4 In The Morning appears...plus when its played on Radio 1 atm, they say 'you can download this from whenever' as opposed to 'now'.

Adverts don't make a blind bit of difference tbf Gym Class Heroes got to #01 on iTunes based upon album version sales and Klaxons are currently top 20 on iTunes too with the album version. Nelly F has done it with her 2nd, 3rd and 4th single too.

The ads on the front page make the most minor of differences tbh.

Radio 1 say you can download "4 in the Morning" now?

What? No, until the single version is released to itunes, radio 1 dont say you can download it...example:

If its released Monday 11th, and they play it today, they say 'you can download that from 11th', whereas you can actually download the album edit now, but the public wont know that.

And of course they make a difference, labels pay large amounts of money to get advertising space on itunes.

Kelly - 15, Chem Brothers 22.

Albums: Mutya 8, Rihanna 10 & 17

Erm actually seeing the song on TV or hearing them on the radio contributes a HELL of a lot more to seeing a mini image in the singles section on iTunes :S

Even on the Radio 1 website it states all the songs you can download now. Why would they LIE and say they're not available when infact they are?

And for interested people Gwen's "4 In the Morning" is at #103 on iTunes, expect a Top 100 debut later today/tommorow :D

Wtf? I never said they would lie :S They just dont say you can download it now if its only the album edit; when the single edit is released to itunes determines when they say you can download it from, which obviously makes sense, as often the single edit is different from the album edit in some way. And theres not just small square ads on itunes - if you look on the home page, theres 3 huge ads, 15 medium sized ads and 40 small ones. The fact is that companies DO pay for that ad space, and im sure its not in vain.

All I'm saying is that I think you're overstating the importance of an iTunes ad. If a song is good enough then the album version will carry it perfectly well. Just look at Nelly F's "All Good Things", it was the album version that was essentially the only one downloaded; even at a length of 5 mins 30 secs. It never had any sort of major ad as far as I'm aware.

An iTunes ad won't take a song from nowhere to hit single. iTunes only counts for 60% or so of all downloads so its a small piece of promotional pie.

What? No, until the single version is released to itunes, radio 1 dont say you can download it...example:

Take a look at this Radio1 playlist from last week:

They do say it's available now even though it's only the album version and it's the same for all songs
