Posted June 14, 200718 yr So is an instrumental jazz-funk album just career suicide??? or are they such an iconic act that it will be seen as just a bit of career noddling while vocals are added???
June 14, 200718 yr They put out loads of non-commercial stuff though, a bit like Sonic Youth. Every now and again they have their big album with loads of promotion behind it, singles etc. It's never stopped them before.
June 14, 200718 yr Are you talking about The In Sound From Way Out? Didn't affect their career at all! Have not heard anything about their new album yet though.
June 14, 200718 yr The new album's supposed to be a return to the likes of 'Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun' from 'Paul's Boutique' or 'Sabotage' from 'Ill Communication'. It's the more hardcore sound rather than rap, or so I'm led to believe. Should be good. I'm hopefully going to see them at the Connect Festival later this year although I have a horrible feeling they clash with Super Furry Animals...
June 17, 200718 yr The Beastie's have always done Jazz/Funk instrumentals on their albums, so this is really nothing new...
