I just listened to what is planned as the next single, and I don't think it's anywhere near good enough to do well for her. I hope she doesn't release it, it will give her her lowest chart placing ever. :(

the standard should be at least FIVE studio albums and maybe about 15-20 singles...

Girls Aloud had only released 3 studio albums and 14 singles before the GH and that has sold over 1 million (i think). It doesnt depend on how many singles and albums an artist has released, its how popular they are. Natalie at this moment in time is not as popular as the torn/johnny english era, but im sure with the right marketing and good songs she could make a big studio album comeback next year.

I agree Coolnav. And Aly, give Be With You more listens; its brilliant. ^_^

Number 6 in the midweeks btw. :w00t:

None of the 4 new tracks on the end of the album particuarly stood out on the first listen...they just make the rest of the album look 100 times better

Much like Dannii Minogue's Hits and Beyond

I beg to differ for Dannii, 'Love Fight' (especially), 'I Can't Sleep At Night' and 'Gone' were all brilliant I thought. Although they couldn't compare to the Neon Nights singles.

Yeah, an actual ALBUM maybe, but I still think that it's bloody cheeky to come up with a GH when your star is almost certainly not in the ascendant and hasn't been for a considerable time. Natalie's really not done that much to merit a GH tbh, or else it shouldn't be called a GH, perhaps a "collection" or a "retrospective"?? Or why not just a high profile re-release of her three already existing studio albums with bonus tracks, DVDs, etc...?? But certainly not a GH....

I would still argue that a Girls Aloud GH is a bit premature as well... I still say the "five album" rule should be the established criteria, anything else is just cashing in and being cheeky...

Exactly - it's not even got 'greatest hits' in the title!

Anyhow, I love The Hits & Beyond by Dannii. It's my favourite Hits collection of any artist. Not only were all 10 of the dance-era singles magical, the new tracks were pretty crazy too. 'Sunrise', 'Love Fight' and 'Good Times' especially were amazing. :D

Well, the actual title of the album is "Glorious: The singles 97 - 07". Maybe the thread should be renamed?

But there's still the fact that there's only about NINE Natalie Imbruglia singles out there mate... The rest of it's just filler from what I can gather..... Still stinks of a record company rip-off in my book.... I believe that even her own intent was to get the fourth album out there before even thinking about any "best ofs" or "singles collections"....

That's true, the 4th album is fully recorded and ready to go. Still, the record company ultimately are the ones who decide, and we as fans aren't complaining - plus the quality of the new tracks is very good indeed. ^_^

I heard that too, I gather Imbruglia herself wasn't hugely 100% convinced about the GH decision.

A GH after 3 albums is usually enough trouble, but especially so when they only managed an average of 3 singles each. Almost as ridiculous as the All Saints collection.

I agree she may have done herself more of a favour if she'd settled one way or another; pop or indie. The problem was the indie fans were never going to be able to admit to really liking an Imbruglia album, and the pop fans aren't interested enough in a female singer who

a) hasn't been able to own the radio since Torn

b.) keeps her clothes on

Having said that I've never agreed with the argument that Torn is her only worthy hit. I've personally found the likes of Wrong Impression and Smoke to be just as catchy, with the right promotion maybe the public would have agreed.

Shiver was utterly amazing in every way and proved Natalie still has that fire.
The other problem Natalie suffers is; she takes so long between albums that she has to practically re-establish herself again everytime she releases a new one.
yes i agree the singles collections hould have been forgotten until a fourth album had been released to fill it up with a few more singles. i like the new 4 songs but they are by no means her best and that is worrying if the record company are releasing it. i can't wait for the new album next year. i hope as it was said that she doesnt take as long this time round it seems like ages ago since counting down the days. can i just add there is now 10 singles on the cd not nine!!!!!!

Which makes it even moe bizarre that the record company would deliberately hold up the 4th album.

Hasn't she left SonyBMG now? I thought that the Greatest Hits collection was proof of their parting ways?

Either way i'm really pleasantly surprised! #6 is great for her considering she's been away a while and the lead was hardly mind-blowing. At least it'll get a decent peak before it plummets down the chart. :(

I guess perhaps they're under the impression that a GH will garner more interest in her after CDTD underperformed, it rarely works though I find. She'll probably have to come up with something really exceptional for her next album. :(

I only thought Love Fight was any good, the other 4 were b-side standard I thought -_-
