Posted April 25, 200619 yr did anyone see comedy connections with Allo Allo last night? actaully this show reminded me of Peter Kay in Pheonix Nights (bizarrely) and also of the League of Gentlemen. Slightly inflendced do you think indirectly? also i saw a show called Dream On last night was this on TV in England before in the 80s? (could ber 1990s for all i know?). i reminded me of a forerunner of scrubs but much more adult. anyone else know of it?
April 25, 200619 yr Dream On? I vaguely remember that. A bit rubbish. Allo Allo is definitely not a direct influence on Peter Kay or League of Gentlemen...more likely they both draw influence from what went before them, only from disparate branches of the comedy tree. Twas a good show last night though.
April 25, 200619 yr No way did The League Of Gentlemen get their influences from Allo Allo

April 25, 200619 yr I've got a single by Gordon Kaye and Vicki Michelle [Rene and Yvette] called Je'taime [allo allo]. It's a cover of the Serge Gainsbourg song and it's EVEN WORSE than Frankie Howards version. Every sit-com duo must have covered this track. <_<

April 26, 200619 yr Je'taime is retitled ' I love you[me neither] and it's by Catpower & Karen Elson. Check out the version by Nick Cave and Anita Lane retitled 'I love You[Nor do I] it's on Mick Harvey's Gainsbourg tribute ' Pink Elephants' and there's a different version on the flip of Anita's 'The World is a Girl'.
April 26, 200619 yr Yep, the Nick and Anita version is absolutely brilliant. There's also a great "cheesy listening" version by Hot Butter (of "Popcorn" fame) out there too.
April 26, 200619 yr The Pet Shop Boys covered it on a b-side [i Don't know what you want but I can't give it any more]. Australian porn actress Abigail recorded an unlistenable version which charted down under.Kylie did a mash-up version with 'Breathe' from 'Impossible Princess' it's on her 'money can't buy DVD.
