The word magazine has given the honor of 'Worst singer of all time' to Mariah Carey "clearly the worst thing to happen to popular music since Jonathan King!!!"

however who do you think is the worst of all time??

No one on that list.

How about Mike Jagger. He seems to be a singer with no talent for singing although much talent for getting attention.

OK I'm not a fan or anything but Mariah is far from being the worst singer. She may not has the nicest personality, she may prefer to whisper instead of sinf in her latest stuff... but she has a quality voice. It's just that she's too lazy to use it lately.. or may she thinks it's sexier to whisper.. I don't know.

Anyway i voted for j.Ho. has she ever performed live?

Mariah killed her voice by over using her whistle register. Thats why she has to whisper now.

mariah isn't a terrible singer at all, really. technically, she's amazing.
IMO the hallmark of a good voice isn't necessarily how many high or big notes a singer can hit, but a distinctive voice that you'd recognise anywhere as being a certain person.

A distinctive voice isn't necessarily good. After all, one of the most distinctive voices has to be that of Bob Dylan. He has written some of the best songs of the last 40 years. However, for the most part, he is not a great singer. He has made a few great albums - including last year's excellent Modern Times. I wouldn't rank him among the all-time best singers - just a brilliant writer who sometimes succeeds as a singer as well.

No, technically, she's dreadful.

um, no you're wrong.

if you seriously think mariah carey is the worst singer of all time, then you need your ears testing. :coffee:

TECHNICALLY, she's amazing.

she can hit all the notes fromthe alto range leading to the soprano and has a five octave vocal range. her voice is incredibly powerful too.

no way is she the worst singer of all time.

I didn't say she was the worst singer of all time. After all, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston weren't included in the list.

i was reffering to whoever put "mariah carey is the worst singer of all time" in the thread title. not you personally.

and they aren't the worst singers of all time either  wtf?

you're telling me artists such as cassie and ciara $h!t all over people like whitney houston, celine dion and mariah carey? please.

Are you f***ing serious

WTF? Mariah??? Alright then ! I think Mariah is the VOICE!

i didnt vote for any :P their all interesting and have their own style in their own ways.

The people who are saying that Mariah is the worst singer in the world are totally ignorant!

How can they say that when there are people like Kelly Osbourne releasing albums!

And as for the people saying that she jumped on the R&B wagon - do your research!!! Mariah always released R&B remixes of her songs and has done since the early 90's! She was the first person to use people like Puff Daddy and Notorious B.I.G! A lot of people don't even know that she was born and raised in New York and is from a mixed race family, her dad was black!!!

precisely.

these fools don't know wtf they're talking about.

Rihanna is probably the worse singer in the charts at the moment.

They have to use a autotune machine in the studio on her and when she sings live she is dreadful.

Who the fukk had so much time on their hands that they made this STUPID, POINTLESS thread?

Mariah Carey? Worst singer of all time? Get a bloody LIFE.

Quite the contrary.

It is run by Mark Ellen former writer for NME & Record Mirror before breaking away to set in 1979 Smash Hits magazine with a team of writers including David Hepworth, Chris Heath, Tom Hibbert, Sylvia Patterson, Dave Rimmer, Miranda Sawyer, Ian Cranna.

In 1986 they got bored of Smash Hits due to the decline in British pop music (post New Romantic era) and set up Q Magazine in 1986 where they added Stuart Maconie & Andrew Collins to their team of writers to cater for the CD/ Album buying generation and elder statesman acts like Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Sting, etc.

He and his team then went on to launch Mojo magazine in 1994 and in 2003 launched The Word magazine which is set up as an all-round entertainment magazine (ie. features on film, TV, internet & books) but with a strong bias towards music by intelligent acts & singer/songwriters. It's last few covers have featured (Amy Winehouse, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney & The White Stripes on the front cover). It is the fastest growing music magazine at the moment within the UK.

well dude i'm surprised you didnt use 'upscale' before entertainment magazine in this sentance

The point of the best/worst top 20 lists are to take a slightly irrelevent or flippant look at whichever topic they are discussing and usually the best in the "heads" is in direct opposite comparison (next in row) to the worst "tails".

In this case they gave the example of best being a female singer who could not get a major record contract in the 1990s despite having a truly exception voice, versatile range and was scouted and passed on by A&R chiefs Clive Davis (Arista)(Whitney Houston), Tommy Mottola (Sony) (Mariah Carey) & David Foster (BMG) (Celine Dion) with Mariah Carey being the worst because of her style over substance - all the vocal gymnastics, diva like behaviour, ridiculous "sexy-ho" imagery instead of using her great vocal talents to sing the frickkin' song properly which you now see at every American Idol/X-Factor show and being responsible for inspiring the Britneys, Beyonces, Jessicas, Xtinas, PCDs, etc.

Whitney (in her prime obv when Serge wanted to get jiggy with her on French TV) was on of the best vocalists along with Rod Stewart pre 1972.

Her talent going unsigned not through being undiscovered, but because they did not think she was good enough in the early 1990s is proof that the music industry has had idiots running it long before Simon Cowell......

Cowell being one of the things that should be outlawed by the word magazine along with the obv rock hack words 'dylanesque', 'on acid' and 'sophomore'

With Razorlight's Johnny Borrell's other half Kirsten Dunst due to star in filming a biopic movie of her life in late 2007, a lot more people are going to look back at the 1990s divas and wonder why could Eva Cassidy not get signed to a major record label.

now i would have put Kirsten down for the role of Debbie Harry in a Blondie bio pic

You clearly didnt catch her Que Hiciste performance on Idol :o
