Jeff Healey RIP - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Superb version and my fave Beatles cover, even more of an achievement given he was blind

From something really good, to something not so good knowing how Paul McCartney is so not a big fan of Simon Cowell and thes Reality TV shows......

American Idol 2008 contestants - Beatles Medley

These contestants have done for the Beatles legacy what Heather Mills did for Paul McCartney's PR & Michael Chapman did to John Lennon.

Did anyone have the miss fortune of which American Idol this week?

..... I hate you Michael Jackson!!!

For Norma..............................

If you are going to do a medley of Beatles songs, then make sure you are a pretty good act in the first place otherwise you are going to come off a distant second best.

Take That - Beatles Medley

The Carpenters' rendition of "Ticket To Ride" was fairly good. It's Karen's voice that made their recording worthwhile.

Although there is a remix of the song with Karen Carpenter singing which is quite tasty.

Take That - Beatles Medley

I totally agree - I hated the Take That Beatles medley (even though I was lucky enough to only get to watch the Ultimate Tour one - having said that - the earlier ones they did were much worse). I was praying that on this latest tour they'd drop it ... and thankfully ... they did!

You see - I don't like everything Take That does - apart from one or two numbers - I can't even stand the Take That and Party album. I do take exception to you saying that Take That are 'not a good act' though (or words to that ilk). I think a comment like that is a bit petty and beneath you - because they are without doubt one of the best live-acts I've seen - and I've seen some pretty good ones.

But record-cover wise - I think the album 'All This And World War II' takes some beating for the sheer number of Beatles songs covered 'cr apply' (by artists that should have known better) in one sitting!

In all honesty - I only like Beatles songs sung by the Beatles. I only like Bob Dylan songs sung by Bob Dylan and I only like Johnny Cash songs sung by Johnny Cash. Some artists just do their own songs justice more than any 'tribute' could.

The only one exception I find is Joe Cocker's cover of 'A Little Help From My Friends' - it betters the original.

????????????? WTF :arrr:

Can't you read or understand English. I was praising them, otherwise I would not have used the word Fortunately in that context to clearly show my appreciation of the greatest boy band of all-time.

I'm pretty pissed off with your comments to be honest especially as I've previously posted on this site on more than one occasion that I regard Back For Good as the best pop song of the last 15 years (since Duran Duran's Ordinary World) & my high opinion of Gary Barlow as a songwriter, and the fact I prefer his voice to the more charismatic & better performer but less talented Robbie Williams.

I think you need to re-read what TIP said, as you obviously got the wrong end of the stick ;)

Ooops I apologise COD (you can see by the time of my post it was first thing in the morning - bleary eyes). That is a sincere apology by the way ... so please accept it!

Having said that - I must disagree with you then ... because I still think the Take That Beatles medley was rubbish. Have always said so!

Oops - I did Brian! I've apologised but as COD and I have disagreed most times on things I automatically assume he's on the attack. I was wrong on this occasion! I doubt he'll accept my apology but at least I've offered it.

I still think the Take That Beatles medley is pants though! And I'm so glad they will never be doing it again.

Norma

Kathy,

Apologies is accepted.

I actually thought the Beatles melody was pretty good compared to some of the other tributes done over the years (Eternal's Supreme tribute springs to the front of my mind).

If you think Take That's Beatles melody was terrible then you really should check this out for a musical horror show.....

Eastenders' Beatles Melody :puke2:

As for Beatles covers albums, I agree All This & World War II (1977) was not the best, a far better Beatles tribute soundtrack was the I Am Sam soundtrack from 2001.....

Which included....

Sheryl Crow - Mother Nature's Son

Rufus Wainwright - Across The Universe

Eddie Vedder - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away

Sarah McLachlan - Blackbird

BUMP:

Here are two really good covers of Beatles related songs IMHO:

Queen + Paul Rodgers - Imagine

^ Much better than Madonna's attempt at this song.

But this is quite possibly the best live performance of a Beatles song that I have ever seen thanks to the sensational guitar playing of his Royal Purpleness (from 3:30 onwards).

Geoorge Harrison tribute (Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty & Prince) - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Agreed! Great cover - Paul Rodgers works really well with Brian and Roger!

What a tribute! Jeff and Tom's vocals are great and Prince' fantastic guitar playing lifts it even higher  Superb!

Thanks for the 'While My Guitar ....' I will forever be in love with Jeff Lynne's voice.

Great performance by Prince, love the bit where he leans back and a minder supports him :D

these would be my fav beatles covers:

The Libertines - Eight Days A Week

Carlos Barat and Peter Doherty - A Day In The Life

Jeff Lynne - A Little Help From My Friends / Nowhere Man - from All This And World War II. I still have this album though I must say ... apart from Jeff's contribution it is a bit pants.
