Mariah In Love With New Album

After launching her new fragrance, "M," Mariah Carey is putting most of her focus on her new album, due out early next year via Island Def Jam. The as-yet-untitled album is the follow-up to her multiplatinum comeback disc, "The Emancipation of Mimi," which earned her three Grammys.

"It's hard for me to sit here and talk about it without sounding like I'm bragging if I'm in love with it, but I'm in love with this album," she says. "I think that having the success with the last record allowed me to have more freedom ... and just make records that I like. It's kind of a really fun record."

And even though Carey has a new fragrance, she never was the type to spray on a scent before she left the house. In fact, Carey says she never really wore perfumes until she fell in love with "M."

"This is the first fragrance that I wear," she says. "I'm not really a perfume person at all ... Things that are too strong and overwhelming, that's what I was always not a fan of."

But when Elizabeth Arden approached the superstar to create her own perfume, it piqued her interest -- mainly because the cosmetics company didn't want to use just her name, but wanted her input in the creation of the scent, which she describes as light, sensual and memorable.

"They were welcoming in my involvement just in every detail, and that was what was the most exciting thing to me," said Carey.

Carey says the fragrance, which comes in a purple bottle with her signature butterfly icon on top, was based on some of her favorite things. One is a Moroccan incense; another is a flower called the Living Tahitian Tiare. But another scent mixed into the fragrance is unexpected: toasted marshmallows.

That aroma was added because it evoked happy memories of her childhood around the campfire. But she adds: "It's blended in there -- it's not like you're gonna walk around smelling like marshmallows."

Interpret it this way, she wants more time between the Fragrance Launch and the album launch. More promotion pictures I hope as a result.

She also explained why she pushed back her yet-untitled album, which had previously been scheduled for December 4, to next year. "You can't really put records out in December if you want the whole world to have a chance to actually hear it, [and]my fans all over the world are very important to me," she said, adding that she also wants to put out a pair of singles before the album drops. Carey dropped another hint about the effort, saying she "just had a really, really hot session with somebody in Miami," and while she was stubborn about letting us know just who the person in question is, she did let it slip that it's a man and that he's "somebody very popular."

Miami? Somebody very popular? Someone PLEASE tell me it's Timbaland or Danja, afterall they are the hottest producers of the year!

When asked about why the album was delayed she said this...

MC: It's just me being a control-freak diva. No, honestly, every time I go back into the studio, I end up writing another song that I'm like "I gotta put this on the record." And it's just like, I felt like, you know, I could have definitely made the initial, you know, what we all hoped would be the release date, but then I wouldn't have been able to put like these last, like, I just recently wrote about five new songs that I'm in love with. It's the same way that happened with the last record which is kind of ironic that at the end of the project - like my two favorite songs I ended up writing them, so, I'm kinda like... I'm kinda happy about it to be honest, because I'm still gonna get to put like a single or two out this year and then put the record out at the top of the year.

Maybe a double A then? :o If she wants to release 2 singles this year then she had better get her skates on. She seems very confident about the whole releasing a single by the end of the year thing so it must be in some way confirmed? Either way i'm sure we'll find out and after hearing that the album was pushed back and being annoyed this has made me feel better again. :D

Super producer Bryan Michael Cox has quite a few projects on his plate including the forthcoming Mariah Carey album.

At Russell Simmons' Financial Empowerment Summit, Bryan gets all amped when talking up Mariah's project.

"It's fantastic! You guys are gonna be very, very pleased with it. Jermaine's on it, I'm on it, Danja, you know. It's phenomenal. She has great, great, great songs."

It must be pretty good. Although he doesn't give us too much information, he seems pretty giddy. I hope what he contributed isn't his typical piano intro ish that sounds very music 101.

Mariah deserves only the best... so I hope he is out of that phase where everything sounds like a "Be Without You" knock off.

Incase we are wondering - Danja is the producer behind a lot of GREAT tracks, he did a lot of work on Nelly Furtado's "Loose" album, plus he produced most of Britney Spears' new album "Blackout", particularly the lead single "Gimme More".

I KNEW IT WOULD BE HIM. :D :D :D :D :D

Now I know Danja is on the project I cannot WAIT. :D This album is getting so many glowing reviews, it HAS to be amazing.

Oh no :( I love Danja but he does really dark electro-type R&B. I don't want Maria's album to sound like Blackout part 2!
Oh no :( I love Danja but he does really dark electro-type R&B. I don't want Maria's album to sound like Blackout part 2!

Yes but the dark electro-type R&B is better then the crap on TEOM.

Cant wait. :D

Fans who waited for Mariah outside the Avery Fisher Hall, where she performed at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, got to preview two of her new songs!

Tingleigh69 reports, "I saw Mariah outside the Glamour Awards! She signed my Music Box CD and was like, 'I hope you have emancipated' and I said, 'of course.' But to make a long story short she said she had to go because she had to play a song for someone. When she got in the car they blasted a song that we never heard before and I think it was her new song and Rachel (Mariah's dancer-friend) said, 'You guys hear that?' It sounded amazing! I couldn't make out lyrics or anything but it was upbeat and very good. They played two different ones. They are definitely gonna be #1s. But it was only a couple of seconds. That has to mean the song is gonna be on the radio any day or she wouldn't have played it infront of us."

fabulous mcfan adds, "It was VERY brief but it was an urban, mid-tempo from what I heard. Higher vocals a la So Lonely. I couldn't hear lyrics except her repeating 'So, so, so -something-' (and no, it wasn't So Lonely). It was very brief and people were screaming. Vocals weren't breathy, just 'higher' in my opinion. The vocals were similar to The Emancipation of Mimi from what I heard. It was a very urban/hip hop influenced song, no guest rappers that I heard and sounded like it was hot. I'm trying to remember, but like I said, it sounded like a great song, very hot! It will do well on radio. I almost thought it was a Rihanna song before I realized it was coming out of Mariah's car."

I am assuming that these songs might be on the album, so I posted these comments here. ;)

Two new song titles from Mariah's forthcoming album have recently been registered with the music copyright holding agency, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI): "For The Record" [previously reported]and "4Real4Real" (or "Four Real Four Real"). Both tracks were written by Mariah, Bryan Michael Cox, and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire. Although they are the first two titles from Mariah's new album to be registered, the songs may not make the final cut of the album. Mariah's new album is currently scheduled to be released early next year.

Bryan Michael Cox and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire are writing/producing partners. They have worked together on songs for Chris Brown, Omarion and Danity Kane, and separately for Mary J. Blige (Cox) and Alicia Keys (Shropshire). Both of them have also separately worked with Mariah before: Bryan Michael Cox co-wrote a few songs with Mariah including her #1 hit "We Belong Together" and Taurian "Adonis" Shropshire has worked with Mariah on "So Lonely" feat. Twista.

Two new tracks announced for the album there. ;)

Her last album was 2005's biggest-selling - but Mariah Carey tells us Emancipation Of Mimi was just a warm-up for her new effort.

Speaking at the launch of her new M fragrance in LA, she revealed: "I am so happy with the new tracks - there are 22 that we're trying to decide from. But the way I like to look at it is the last album was the main course, and the new one is the dessert!"

Mariah added she's set to embark on a worldwide tour. She said: "We didn't get to Europe on the last tour and I was upset about that. I love England so much! We'll have to make it happen next time."

In the meantime, fans can watch Mimi on the new DVD of last year's Adventures Of Mimi tour. It's a treat.

Builds up the anticipation for us.

It looks like Mariah's new, as-yet-untitled album will not be out until April or later. According to the latest list of upcoming album releases published by Billboard, the following are due out in Spring/Second Quarter:

Spring/Second Quarter Album Releases

Mariah Carey, TBA

Usher, TBA

Gnarls Barkley, TBA

Alanis Morissette, Flavors of Entanglement

Ashanti, The Declaration

Lil Mama, Voice of the Young People

Aimee Mann, Smilers

Tom Jones, TBA

^ Spring a possibility? Not quite what the industry was hoping from a diva battle later on in this post based on this list.

Marketplace Morning Report host Doug Krizner talks to Bill Werde, executive editor at Billboard, about the four highly anticipated 2008 releases -- albums from Madonna, U2, Usher and Mariah Carey. Here's what Werde had to say about the upcoming Mariah Carey release:

Krizner: How much is at stake for the recording industry this year?

Werde: Well, you know, the sales of recorded music continue to decline, and digital growth is not offsetting that. So I think what happens is for major labels, there's more and more pressure for their blockbuster releases to really connect. Usher's sales are now over 9 million copies on the last album, and you know, we haven't had an album like that in the music business since then.

Krizner: Seems like a good segue into Mariah Carey -- Billboard is saying that her 2008 release is perhaps the most highly anticipated album of the year. Any sense, Bill, of what it might be like?

Werde: Well, I mean judging by the producers that she's working with, I would expect an album that's not altogether different from her last album. Jermaine Dupri, who's really the megaproducer who a lot of people credit with turning her career around with her last album, is back to helm this one. You know, and she's working with a lot of the top hip-hop and R & B producers that are out there right now.

^ Highly anticipated.

In her latest article at The Voice, MTV senior producer/director and Mariah's very close friend, Jasmine Dotiwala talks briefly about Mariah's album.

"Will Dizzee Rascal continue his global domination with his quick fire spit? Will Craig David rise again with his comeback? And will Mariah Carey fulfill all our expectations with her much anticipated new album, which is about to drop any week now? (I'm sure it will - I've heard it. This girl just goes from strength to strength.) With so much press, hard work and activity under John Legend's watchful eye in 2007, will the UK fans show they stand strong by UK talent by actually buying Estelle's album? Will Kelly Rowland's music career roll up or out without her DC girls in tow?"

Jasmine promises Mariah holiday scoop next week. "I will hit you with all my Mariah Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's week adventures next week. Yes, it was crazy!" Stay tuned!

^ Brief mention about Mariah's album.

Wouldn't it be great if the world's biggest divas--Janet Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston--released their latest albums around the same time? All four of the above-mentioned singers will be taking another run at the charts in the next few months. Here's a look at how the divas fared the last time they released an album, their plan of attack this time around and how well the resulting efforts will sell in the end.

Diva in question: Mariah Carey

How she fared last time: Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi was the best-selling album of 2005, at least in the U.S., moving more than 6 million copies in her homeland (and another than 7 million worldwide).

Single "We Belong Together" topped the U.S. singles chart for 14 weeks, while the success of subsequent single, "Don't Forget About Us," allowed her to tie Elvis' record of number one singles by a solo artist (both have had 17).

What she's trying this time around: Mariah may not seem like a member of Mensa, but she's no dummy either--at least as far as her career is concerned (2001's Glitter notwithstanding).

Rolling Stone recently reported that for her next album, due out in March or April, Mariah's sticking close to the "club-ready" sound that served as the backbone of Mimi, thanks to the help of beatmasters Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox (co-writer of Mary J. Blige's "Be Without You') and Will.i.am.

Will her album be a "damn!" or a dud? If she whips out a "We Belong Together, Part 2," and you know she will, she'll have a massive hit on her hands, especially in the U.S. The only thing holding her back: her obsession with butterflies, her strange method of coming up with album and song titles and the mouth-watering possibility of another post-Glitter-style breakdown.

^ This would be good if it happens, but that early schedule doesn't earmark either of the others so it is a bit of a disappointment, though an interesting battle if Mariah is pushed back or others brought forward.

All this from the source below.

Well Janet's album is definitely being released in February, as was Mariah's scheduled to be but now it seemingly has been pushed back (again). I have no idea on Madonna as she's not really an artist I follow but I will have a check up on Whitney. You're right though John it'll be huge either way and no doubt the only winners will be the fans. :D

Well thus far Whitney's site has been taken down and only the UK version is online and it's only promoting the Ultimate Collection, it says the new site will be coming in the Autumn, which gives the indication that that is when the new album will be released?

Madonna's website doesn't say anything about new material.

Neither does Mariah's.

Janet's is still under construction but is already sporting her new single audio and new design.

^_^

She's made me wait too long. I've been listening to Morrissey this week. This can't be good. I want a Mariah album now please.

I'd have settled for a soundtrack - a few songs with shoddy rappers - anything.

I share the exact sentiment Tim.

However the world may be saved! All Access (official airplay dates for new singles) have confirmed Mariah's yet untitled new single to debut on the 22nd of January, that's less than 2 weeks away. :o

I also have this little tidbit of information of possible album track titles:

Yet another new song title! MariahDailyJournal is now able to reveal that "Touch My Body" is one of the tracks from the much-awaited, new Mariah Carey album. This song, according to our source, is also being considered for the lead single.

Thus far, this site has confirmed 4 new song titles: "Touch My Body," "I'm That Chick You Like," "Migrate," and "Heat." More details about Mariah's upcoming album will be posted as soon as they become available.

oooh exciting!!! :cheer: just got info on Cassie's followup aswell :w00t:
One Question, when is the album actually released?

However, that is a tentative date. Best wait until an official announcement has been made as indicated: -

All Access Music Group is reporting that Mariah's new single whose title is still to be determined is impacting Top 40/Mainstream radio stations on Tuesday, January 22nd.

Although "All Access" gets its data directly from the record labels, please consider this a tentative date until an official announcement is made.
