Posted July 6, 200718 yr Led by ex-Zombies keyboard-songwriter-vocalist Rod Argent and bass player Jim Rodford, they recruited Russ Ballard and drummer Bob Henrit, their first 2 albums didn’t do much but the 3rd album contained the single “ Hold your head up”, with its union of riff and screaming title hook Hold your head up was an undeniable anthem of the early 70’s. Their other hit was “God gave rock and roll to you”, covered by Kiss a few years later. After that they disappeared into concept albums, and fell of the radar. Former Zombie singer Colin Blunstone was having a solo career at the same time, with hits like “ Say you don’t mind” and “I don’t believe in miracles.” The Zombies had one big hit “ She’s not there”
July 6, 200718 yr didnt we discuss argent not long ago?... liked 'hold your head up'... but thats it.
July 6, 200718 yr I liked Hold Your Head Up by Argent. I also liked Colin Blunstone's two hits and didn't he do guest vocals on Dave Stewart's What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted in the early 80's?

July 9, 200718 yr Got not much interest in Argent but I do have a great cover of Hold Your Head Up by Mother Love Bone on a bootleg somewhere.
July 9, 200718 yr Well I love Hold Your Head Up and God Gave Rock & Roll to You (especially that keyboard section in the middle - almost as good as section in The Stranglers cover of Walk On By). Mention of the Zombies and She's Not There is a classic - although gotta say I prefer Santana's version of it. But I'm a woman. And what does a woman know about music? Yes, that was a really good cover. Dave Stewart also did a good version of It's My Party with Barbara Gaskin which made number 1. One thing he did NOT do, of course, was to form the Tourists and then the Eurythmics. That was a different Dave Stewart. Just in case anyone is unclear :D Tio get back on topic, the only Argent songs I remember are Hold Your Head Up and God Gave Rock And Roll To You. Not a big fan of either song but they wouldn't make me turn the radio off if they came on.

I prefer the Santana version of She's Not There as well. I remember a group of us trying to get the DJ to play it at a 6th form Christmas party. That must have been in 1977 :w00t:
