Evanescence Announce Details Of Second Album

by Daniel Zugna

April 27 2006

Goth-nu-metal-emo band Evanescence have announced that their second major label album, to be titled 'The Open Door' - will be released in the US on 3 October.

The band's major-label debut, 'The Fallen', was a worldwide success, shifting over 14 million units and earning the band two Grammys in 2003 (Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance).

Pianist/vocalist Amy Lee claims that she has grown significantly since 'Fallen' and considers guitarist Terry Balsamo as the "perfect writing partner". She goes on; "I feel like I've been lifted up to a whole new level of inspiration and possibilities. After all the things we've seen over the past couple of years, beautiful and tragic, in the end I'm really grateful. It has made us create music I could not be more in love with."

'The Open Door' is being produced by Dave Fortman (Mudvayne), and was recorded and mixed in Los Angeles in early 2006. The creation of the album has been a slow process, due to Lee's insistence that the band take their time, as well as health problems concerning Balsamo. The album will feature 13 tracks, with the lead single expected to be 'Call Me When You're Sober'.

probably want to moved this to the emo-goth metal punk area, as the indie kids will probably just think 'so what'

I had no idea which one to put it in to be honest.

Pop?

Only kidding, even though I'm not a great lover of Ev, I'd never put them in the same category as sheer awfulness as Pussycat Dolls or their like....

Goth-Emo-Nu Metal? Nu Metal? - Definitely, Emo? - possibly, Goth? Never, Amy Lee can wear all the corsets in the world, it still dont make her a Goth any more than Kate Beckinsale in "Underworld" I'm afraid.....

But hey, maybe they'll surprise me and come up with something to rival Within Temptation or Lacuna Coil...

FANTASTIC news, I LOVED Fallen.

The single title sounds a bit... I don't know, not the type of thing I would have expected from them, their last singles weren't really about love were they? Well not in the same way most artists are, and this song sounds like a relationship gone wrong, I will reserve judgement until I hear it. ^_^

Should be interesting... Fallen was an ok album, Bring Me To Life is still the only song that really WOWed me though.

All of the singles WOW'd me in their own way. I think the songs are all songs people can relate to, the singles I mean, the best track for me was Everybody's Fool, it's just a song I can identify with so much, and the video was so fitting for the track.

I thought that that one a bit dull myself :( 'Hello' on the album was a great track though.

Give me a chocolate bourbon and we might be able to come to an arrangement ^_^

I'm glad to hear about this, didn't they lose their bassist?

Guitarist and main songwriter Ben Moody. He preferred life being Kelly Clarkson's bitch.....  Still, it sorta goes some of the way explaining why "Fallen" sounded so weak compared to the "Origin" mini-album....

Now I must say I doubted Amy's live vocals, but I came across this YouTube and thought it was a great performance, what do you guys think?

Speaking as someone who's actually seen a full-on Evanescence live show, I found her to be a technically competent enough vocalist, but nothing special, you could replace her with someone like Kelly Clarkson and you wouldn't really notice any difference; certainly not in the Tarja, Sharon or Cristina league (and yes, I have seen all them sing live also...)
