i would go with a 4-4-2

robbinson

Neville

terry

ferdinand

cole

beckham

lamps

gerrad

j.cole

Owen

crouch (if rooney is out)

though i feel england could go with a 4-3-1-1

with J.cole playing as an attacking MDF, and neville and A.cole working as wing backs.

Lampard

Gerrard

Joe Cole

Owen

Darren Bent (If Rooney is out)

I all the players are fit including Rooney then there's no doubt that that is what he'd go for (Oasis's), which can cause major problems in major tournaments seen as its really predictable on how were going to play and its easy to defeat us tactically and that is how Big Phil did in both 2002 and 2004 as he could predict correctley what team we were gonna play.

                                                           Robinson

                                        G.Nevile        Terry       Ferdinand   A.Cole

                                        Beckham     Lampard     Gerrard     J.Cole

                                                     Rooney     Owen

2nd Choice Goalie: James

2nd Choice Right Back: Mills is the only option I think after Luke Young is injured

2nd Choice Left Back: Bridge

2nd Choice Centre Backs (in order of preference): King and Carragher

2nd Choice Right Midfielder: Wright-Phillips

2nd Choice Central Midfielders (in order of preference): Carrick and Nolan

2nd Choice Left Midfielder: Downing

2nd Choice Strikers In Order Of Preference: Crouch and Defore

I kinda feel maybe we should have someone like Carrick and Barton in central midfield considering we have two attacking style midfielders playing and I feel that we need a more defensive player to partner Lampard of Gerrard but the thing is who do you take out?

GK: Robinson

LB: Cole

CB: Terry

CB: Ferdinand

RB: Neville

LM: J.Cole

CM: Lampard

CM: Gerrard

RM: Beckham

CF: Owen

CF: Rooney

If either Owen or Rooney got injured then i'd play Crouch. As cover for all of the defence i'd definitley have Carragher playing as he's so versatile and as i'd have Carrick and Barton as back up midfielders, but Sven prefers Jenas over both of those players.

In a normal match assuming all the players are fully match fit, etc.

It would have to be

GK: Robinson

LB: Cole

CB: Terry

CB: Ferdinand

RB: Neville

LM: J.Cole

CM: Lampard

CM: Gerrard

RM: Beckham

CF: Owen

CF: Rooney

And you would not need to pay me £4 million a year to work that out.

However, I would play a slightly different side depending upon the opposition.

For example if we were playing Brazil (in the Semi Finals) then I would play Carrick as the holding midfielder (DM) to do a "Nobby Stiles" on Ronaldinho & drop (at the moment) Lampard, or play Lampard with Gerrard out on the right-wing (and drop Beckham).

Then again if we were playing a quality side but with aged or slow Wing Backs then I would play Shaun Wright-Philips instead of Beckham.

The only problem with dropping Beckham is that he is (to quote Ronaldinho) still the best crosser of the ball in the world & certainly England's free kick specialist.

Yup. Ronaldinhio is right and if Sven dropped him I think that we'd miss his leapership skills. But Lampard now takes penalty's and i'm sure that either Gerrard or Lampard could take England's corners or free kicks.

Assuming you had a full squad of fit players I'd go with:

GK : Robinson

CB : Terry

CB : R. Ferdinand

LB : Ashley Cole

RB : G. Neville

(Acting as wing-backs)

CM : Gerrard

CM : Lampard

RM : Beckham

LM : J. Cole

CF : Rooney

CF : Owen

OK I have come up with another formation which i think would work well for England.

as we all know Rooney will be out for most of the world cup.

-------------------------------Robinson--------------------------

---Neville------Ferdinand-------------terry---------A.cole

-------------------------------carrick------------------------------

----Beckham-------------------------------------J.cole---------

------------------Gerrard---------------Lampard----------

-----------------------------Owen---------------------------

4-1-2-2-1 (sort of diamond)

with gerrad and lampard being one of the best midfields in the world.I feel england still have got a chance :).

Lamps and gerrad should play off owen.

I think this could be England's best option (minus the injured Rooney) playingthe Christmas Tree formation an old favourite of Terry Venables.

Unsurprisingly, he suggested this formation tonight on Radio5 Live - when talking about the pressures of the England job in an hour long programme along with Bobby Robson, Graham Taylor & Glenn Hoddle.
