Posted July 21, 200717 yr HMV to buy Fopp stores? 20 July 2007 - 10:46:07 Source: Music Week HMV is reportedly considering the purchase of several former Fopp stores from administrator Ernst And Young. The music specialist is also examining the possibility of buying the Fopp brand, according to Retail Week . HMV said that it does not comment on media speculation and a spokeswoman for Ernst And Young said that while the administrator was liaising with interested buyers for parts of the business, it is not in a position to give names. Fopp founder Gordon Montgomery is also reportedly interested in buying some stores and re-launching the company.
July 21, 200717 yr great - that means their prices will rocket sky-high and they'll cease stocking anything not in the charts
July 21, 200717 yr HMV will just be interested in the sites, they will rename them HMV's and stock everything at their typical rip off prices
July 21, 200717 yr Isn't Fopp a yogurt company? Nah, it sounds like they're talking about Prince Charles and half the royal family..
July 21, 200717 yr Why oh WHY do people still have HMV down as a ripp-off store? Once upon a time, yes... Now I think they are as cheap as anywhere else. Bloody better than c**p Virgin Megastore anyway!
July 22, 200717 yr I think its a good thing they're even considering it. I would have thought the opposite and HMV stores would close due to everyone downloading
July 22, 200717 yr We already have two HMV's in Brighton within 5 minutes of each other, we definitely don't need a third (Fopp was five minutes down the road)
July 22, 200717 yr Why oh WHY do people still have HMV down as a ripp-off store? Once upon a time, yes... Now I think they are as cheap as anywhere else. Bloody better than c**p Virgin Megastore anyway! They had Green Day's "International Superhits" for £17 the other day! HMV IS a rip-off shop, certainly in comparison to the mighty Fopp!

Bloody better than c**p Virgin Megastore anyway! Maybe their chart stuff is no more expensive than other places in general but their non chart stuff especially classic albums from years gone by are still around the £15 mark and so on and there is no excuse for that kinda thing in this day and age
July 22, 200717 yr We've got 3 in Manchester city centre! And another few in Eccles, Stockport and Trafford Centre which are literally a few miles apart. I can't see them buying the closed down branch of Fopp here...
July 22, 200717 yr Hmv are reasonably priced as far as im concerned Virgin are a rip off each have there plus points and minus points. as each have their offers and stock that they bring in and out again and again and replace the 3 for £20 stickers with 5 for £30 Why oh WHY do people still have HMV down as a ripp-off store? Once upon a time, yes... Now I think they are as cheap as anywhere else. Bloody better than c**p Virgin Megastore anyway! well the problem is that tescos selling cds as a loss leader (even cheaper than some internet sites) to get people into stores has created a sense of scroogeness in consumers brains well everyone thinks that quite new cd albums are only worth £3. hmv has the problem that it does sell chicken and peas and instead has loads of deep catalogue that maybe one person in about 900 might be intersted in, but would that person want to pay the £26 for that pleasure of that great cd now he has seen loads of ave quite new records in tescos for £3??? btw got a copy of SoaP on DVD the other day from HMV. It was in the 3 for £20 offer, however if you bought it on its own would cost you £25!!! random!!!
