I posted a thread about Paolo Nutini on Chc a while ago - but no one replied - I can't believe that I'm the only person who thinks this is a really talented singer-songwriter/live performer - so it must have been me that was being ignored eh? ;) :P :D - Undeterred - I'll give it another go here in this brand spanking new forum

If you've not already heard of him - I'm sure you're going to be doing very soon, in the meantime - if you want to sample some of music - you can HERE.

There are some downloads also available on his official website HERE too!

The first single - Last Request got it's first spin on radio on the Jo Whiley show this week - Paolo is appearing Live in Dundee at Radio 1's One Big Weekend - on the Sat, 13th - due on stage around 1:30pm - if anyone happens to be going to that - be sure to try and catch him - he's really good live :) Tons more dates/chances to see him live, listed on the MySpace too B)

They will be doing a live set and interview on the Jonathan Ross show on BBC Radio2 next Saturday, between 10am and 1pm - if you want to, you should be able to listen online via their website HERE

I noticed a few people gave Paolo some points in the recent rate poll; and that even more people are unfamilar with him/his music - so I thought I'd flag up that there are 3 live performances and an interview taken from the Tiscali showcase he did on Friday, currently available to view online HERE

The single 'These Streets' - is meant to be available on iTunes as a free download on Monday 29th as well :)

I saw a vid of his yesterday on The Box "Last Request". It's quite good actually, not what I'd buy but I did quite like it. :)

Yeah, it's the first proper single - out 3rd July - I really like the song - have you watched the live performance of it - on the tiscali showcase? I've not seen the video though - I used to have The Box, I thought I still did, 'till just recently, but I've found out it's disappeared off my ntl - cheeky swipers :o :P - I'll just have to be patient - it will appear somewhere online soon enough I suppose :D

I went to get this freebie download off iTunes, but it didn't work until June the 1st - so if anyone else tried and failed - try again it's working now - it's a nice song. It actually forms part of an EP - you can get it free alone, or together with Jenny Don't be Hasty; New Shoes & Autumn if you buy the EP - I like all these tracks, so can recomment it myself - two upbeats; two ballads - Autumn being especially poignant  - well you can hear the clips, so you'll get the idea of the music styles anyway I suppose :P :D

I love the setting ... can imagine just sitting in the park for a live gig like that

I love Paolo Nutini, his album "These Streets" is brilliant and I love the new single "Jenny Don't Be Hasty". He really surprised me with his music, he's very talented.

Jimmy Nail? - I've not read that anywhere and it's never occurred to me listening to him, that Paolo's anything like Jimmy Nail either, I quite liked Crocodile Shoes though - the album and that TV series it came from - I enjoyed at the time :D But, for me, Paolo's got a much better singing voice, he's sings with a lot of soul - has a soul-esq-bluesy feel to his music and voice. He sounds like Marvin Gaye on Loving You to me - but very different on other tracks too - so, I think he's got a distinctive and unique sound really, especially live, due to the Scottish accent being very prevalent. Most of the reviews I've read, have been positive and he seems to be doing well charts and gigs-wise at the moment anyway - but whatever, the best way to decide whether you think he's any good, or who/what he sounds like, is to listen to him yourself, not read reviews - good or bad :)

To continue the Art vs Commerce thing from the Katie Melua thread. this is a site whose main focus is the pop charts which of course is governed 99% of the time by massive airplay (which of course is a strike for commerce rather than art), so to be honest in most cases there's no point in starting a thread on a new act before they have had that airplay and press as noone will bother replying.

so its not you. so dont think you are being ignored.

it was the same with Sandi Thom, the thread that said something like 'did you watch Sandi Thom get signed by Craig Logan at her flat over the web'. Nobody bothered with that until she got the record onto all the radio playlists and tv shows.

however please continue to discover new talents on myspace and youtube, and let every one here know of them, however think it might be better just to put them in one new discoveries thread until they get the press they need.

 I'm definitely not in tune with that writer then :D

Yes, I take your point, though there were plenty of artists/threads in the then, 'singer-songwriter' forum, that I hadn't heard of - I find those interesting myself, but probably wouldn't notice them if they were tucked away in a catch all thread. As for Paolo Nutini, I felt it wouldn't be long until he hit the mainstream anyway. I was only joking about the 'being ignored', it doesn't trouble me to talk to myself ;) :D

His first single I really liked at first but well it gt over-played and now I find it very dull and boring. His new song on the other hand is brilliant and shows that he isn't a Blunt clone. ^_^

Last Request was rather dull.

last request was overrated. but jenny don't be hasty is a masterpiece. i can't get it outta my head. fantastic song. I'm sure he's great live. I'll wait for another single to be released before I rush out and get the album.

im bored $h!tless of all these solo male artists...

I dunno - he kinda did fall into the mould with Last Request - but considering that was his first single - it was a wise choice to play it safe. Jenny Don't Be Hasty is good.

And there aren't that many similar artsits releasing songs at the same time.

Robbie's off doing his own thing.

Someone's finally silenced the Blunt.

Powter's long gone (it seems).

There's only James Morrison - who's pure pop with a soulful voice.

Lemar - who's new song is shocking

Justin Timberlake (who with his new song doesn't fit into any male solo artist category)

and then there's Richard Hawley - who i'm sure you're not reffering too, cos he sin't that popular.

I can understand if James Blunt ruined the male artist thing for you, though. But if you haven't heard Paulo Nutini's new track, you should it's great.
