April 30, 200619 yr I've listened to the Sports weekly - (Sunday 9am - on Radio 5Live). It is a disaster. He is out injured for six weeks which will mean he will probably miss the the 3 Group Phase matches against Paraguay, Trinifdad & Tobago & Sweden. This is the same injury that David Beckham had 49Days before the last World Cup & although he played, you'll remember that he clearly was not match fit. I now feel the alternative for his position should be either Shaun Wright-Phillips or Joe Cole (with Stewart Downing playing on the left wing). Stil Man Ure fans will be happy as he will recover from the injury in time for Pre-Season training. :(

I don't think Sven will take him to Germany. Them 3 group matches shouldn't be hard anyway so I don't think we'll miss him much. But he needs to play in the later stages.
April 30, 200619 yr Rooney will go to the world cup. Rooney will probably be out and will definitley not be able to play for 5 weeks and if he builds up his match fitness he could be beack for the final group game. Rooney will be on the plane to Germany as Sven knows that without him we don't have a brillaint chance of winning the world cup.
April 30, 200619 yr Author And everyone knows a 50% fit Rooney is much better than a 100% Peter Crouch.. <_<
April 30, 200619 yr And everyone knows a 50% fit Rooney is much better than a 100% Peter Crouch.. <_< Not always. People diss Crouch so much cause he's not your average football player. Overall all of course Rooney is better than Crouch, but remember Crouch won us the game against Argentina, as he terrorized their defence, and surely he can do that in the world cup.
April 30, 200619 yr Well he'll probably be out of the group stages but he might POSSIBLY be fit for the knockout stages if he's fit and we get there. ;) I say we should play Carrick instead as an anchor role and put Gerrard just behind Owen myself.
April 30, 200619 yr And everyone knows a 50% fit Rooney is much better than a 100% Peter Crouch.. <_< A 10% Rooney is better than a 100% Crouch! :P
April 30, 200619 yr There is no point in him playing. They say 6 weeks but it took him 3 months to recover from virtually the same thing two yars ago. If we take him it could well prove to be a waste of a squad place which we need.
April 30, 200619 yr Did you really think we'd win with Sven in charge anyway? I did, this is the best chance we've had in years. That was untill now.....!
April 30, 200619 yr We still have a chance. How many goals did Rooney score in the qualifiers?. I'm sure the answer is none?. Rooney will still go to the world cup as Sven will take him just like he did with Beckham.
April 30, 200619 yr Definitely, we have never been as highly rated as 2nd favourites with the international bookmakers in a World Cup. This squad was easily the best we've had in my lifetime. As Sir Bobby Robson said today without Rooney we've gone from second favourites to one of the eight or nine outsiders who can win the World Cup. And if we have to go into it without a fully fit Michael Owen then we stand no chance. Wayne Rooney will always have the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but this is surely the last World Cup for Gary Neville; David Beckham; Jamie Carragher & Sol Campbell while the likes of Frank Lampard; Steven Gerrard; Michael Owen & John Terry could well be past their best in four years time in South Africa.
April 30, 200619 yr With or without Rooney we'll still do good in the world cup. Sure Rooney will be a loss, but its so predictable that Sven will take him, and he'll probably be able to play the final group game. We have a brilliant squad and Gerrard was on top form yesterday and showed why he is one of the best players in the world. Terry's injury will only keep him out of the final premiership game of the season, and Owen's well I don't think he;ll miss the world cup. If we don't have Rooney or Owen fully fit then sure it won't help our cause, but were England and we have a great squad and possibly the best defence and midfield in the world.
April 30, 200619 yr Look on the bright side, at least when you fail miserably to win the world cup (as England always do, and then you crucify your managers as if it's completely all their fault - no wonder Scolari knocked it back, smart man...) you'll have a ready-made excuse.... Winning it back in '66 was probably the worst possible thing that could have happened, because since then the English people have had rather unrealistic expectations of winning it again, and you hype your players up to ridiculous levels, and then blame the perfectly competent managers (as you did with Bobby Robson and others in the past..) when it all falls apart...
April 30, 200619 yr Rooney isn't there neccessarily to score goals as much as he's a striker, his presence in the team is valuable and we always play better with him in the team then again overall. As long as Gerrard and Owen are ok then we should hopefully get past the group stages at least and as I said somewhere else maybe Rooney could be in the knockout stages if we get there. This is the first time since 1990 that we actually have a REALISTIC chance of winning as our TEAM is good enough now rather than just having Beckham or Shearer or whoever.
April 30, 200619 yr No, this is the first time since 1970 that internationally we are highly rated to have a good chance of winning the World Cup. I feel with the generation of footballers around that this could be the best chance of winning the World Cup for the next 40 Years as our game is being flooded with foreign players so in 4/8/12 etc years time our squad will not be as strong as the squad that will travel to Germany in June.
April 30, 200619 yr As i've said before I think were strong enough to get through the group stages, and then hopefully Rooney can come back for the knockout stages. I do think that this is the best chance we've had of winning the world cup for a long time, and that foreign players are starting to invade the game way too much. However there are some brilliant youngsters coming through the ranks that are really tipped to go onto vrilliant things, and these are just three players I can think of who could be future England players; Theo Walcott: I don't think I need to say much about him as most people already know everything about him. He is definitley a contender for a furure England CF Paul Anderson: Absolutley brilliant right winger and without him Liverpool would not have won the FA Youth cup. He was singed in a swap deal from Hull and I think he could be Liverpool'd right winger next season. Jack Hobbs: Another Liverpool player who we stole right under the noses of Arsenal, and he is definitley a CB to look to for in the future.
April 30, 200619 yr Well we have an easyish group, so without rooney we should still be good enough to make the Q-F at least(as long as we top the group, as we dont wanna play the krauts in the 2nd round), but the problem will be when we get to the last 8 or even the semi where we will probably play brazil  Sven needs to use all his tactical nouse(cough) to win those games without rooney, no doubt he will put 10 men behind the ball & put phil neville on
