Posted August 2, 200717 yr Throughout the years comics have made attempts to get songs into the charts. Some succeeded, but on the whole they were pretty abysmal. What ones do you remember? I remember: Mike Reid......Ugly Duckling #10 in 1975 Jasper Carrott...Funky moped #7 in 1975 Benny Hill..........Ernie #1 in 1971 Bernard Cribbins........Right said Fred #10 in 1962 Ken Dodd..............Tears #1 in 1965 Russ Abbott............Atmosphere #7 in 1985 Edited August 2, 200717 yr by brian91
August 3, 200717 yr Vic Reeves/The Wonderstuff - "Dizzy".... I've been at a fair few drunken Indie Disco nights being pished out of my head and dancing to this, but when I am sober, I utterly loathe this song....
August 3, 200717 yr Tracey Ullman had a few hit songs in the '80s didn't she? One of them was a cover of Kirsty MacColl's 'They Don't Know'. It was never released, but Jennifer Saunders sang 'Holding Out For A Hero' while playing the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2. Peter Kay, sort of. Well, to be fair I don't think he thinks he can sing, and he didn't actually sing on 'Amarillo' and he and Matt Lucas were both playing characters when 'singing' '500 Miles'. Actually are novelty comedy records included in this thread or is it just those who have made 'serious' attempts? Because if not, that could include Harry Enfield as Loadsamoney and that awful dance track he did for Kevin And Perry Go Large. Plus Cat from Red Dwarf had a top 20 hit with 'Tongue Tied'.
August 3, 200717 yr Anyone remember the awful Mary Whitehouse Experience record? Mr Strange & the Lactose Brotherood - 'Take Me To The Fridge (Milky Milky)' I bought the 12" - sheesh.
August 3, 200717 yr Who were those two old comedians who dressed up as John Travolta and Oliver Newton John from Greese Lol? Made an embaressing appearence on TOTP if i recall :w00t: Edited August 5, 200717 yr by Joey Deacon
August 3, 200717 yr Hylda Baker and Arthur Mullard - absolutely awful. nooooo.... absolute class! That TOTP appearance is one of the best ever! Apparently, by the time Hylda Baker appeared on the show, she was suffering from severe dementia - hence her appearing pissed. Love that song - much more than the original.... especially the libne "If you're filled with infection".....
August 3, 200717 yr Didn't Ricky Tomlinson release a footy song a few years ago? He's sort of a comedian..?
August 3, 200717 yr On a football theme Baddiel and Skinner did Football's Coming Home song but I loved that
August 3, 200717 yr What about Eddie Murphy with Party All the Time? Albeit, it was written, produced, directed by Rick James, but, tried he did to sing...
August 4, 200717 yr I actually saw this Eddie Murphy clip where he imitates Michael Jackson. He didn't sound that bad. o.O Never heard that song though.
August 4, 200717 yr Jimmy Carr, Patrick Kielty and someone else (who I can't remember...but it may have been Chris Moyles) sang My Way for Comic Relief this year...but they all seemed very sure of the fact they could not sing!!!
August 4, 200717 yr i liked tracey ullmans songs ....lol. peter sellars 'a hard days night'..... class.

August 4, 200717 yr The late Bernard Manning. Recorded a version of the Bee Gees Us#1 How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - luckily it flopped. The late John Inman - Are You Being Served Sir #39 in 1975.
