Just thinking about this who would you say are some of the most underrated female artists. This time last year i would have said Kelly Clarkson but she's one of a lucky few who eventually breakthrough

i say:

michelle branch (the spirit room is one of my faves ever)

beverley knight (yeah i know she's well known, but her singles should do so much better)

le ann rimes (her stuff post- can't fight the moonlight has gone largely un-noticed)

ashlee simpson (autobiography had so many more potential singles!)

If it was a most overrated poll then Kelly Clarkson would win it by a mile.

Underrated - Nerina Pallot; Fiona Apple; Aimee Mann; Martha Wainwright; (the late) Kirsty MacColl.

Amy Studt!

I loved her at the time btu strangely only got round to buying her album this year!

She deserved so much more :(

Id agree with your choices too tho not too sure about Ashlee Simpson.

I agree with Michelle Branch! The Spirit Room is my 2nd favourite album of all time

I think I can guess what your 1st is. :P

I'd say Sophie Ellis-Bextor, she doesn't get half the amount of credit she deserves for being a unique and special talent, and her last album which was great slipped by unnoticed. Still, maybe the next album will fix this (I hope).

Natalie Imbruglia doesn't seem to get enough praise, considering she's fairly credible, successful and seemingly loved.

Well you cant have every artist getting #1s and being successful and selling millions. The world isnt like that.

Unfortunately the good stuff goes un-noticed :(

I agree on LeAnn Rimes, fabulous artist.
Beverley Knight (highly said as) has got to be mine. "Affirmation" was stunning. My best album of 04. its a shame she doesnt get the success she deserves. :(

Goldfrapp ... its still a female singer lol  their songs are all good but arent really that high up

Jo O'Meara should of done alot better with her solo song

Estelle should of also done alot better with all her songs especially Go Gone

Javine & Shaznay Lewis were both great aswell :(

Natalie Imbruglia - her albums should be million sellers but only sell around 200k... her singles are way too underrated too.

Annie - she released the amazing "Chewing Gum" and "Heartbeat" but they both bombed, her album "Anniemal" aswell... I think she's making a come-back or something, hope it's better this time.

Rachel Stevens - she recorded a critically acclaimed album with "Come & Get It" with all amazing electro-pop songs, still the album scraped the Top 30 and the singles only managed No.10 and No.12 possitions.

Rachel Stevens, deffo :( ... Michelle Branch as well.

wouldnt say underrated, just didnt sell as much as pop fluff

however the thing is with these acts they could be absolutly freaking massive in their home markets

They're more of an album's act TBH, and the last album did fabulously for their genre. I was a fan since 'Black Cherry' and thought they were underrated so I was pleased to see them finally getting real success with Supernature, but I thought Black Cherry was a way better album.

Agreed on Leann Rimes, definately underrated, and from seeing her interviews she comes across as a nice person too.

rachel stevens? how can she be underrated when she just has no talent?..

annie, beverly knight, and amy studt, deffinately, id also add beth orton, who wistful vocals do her compositions credit.
