thats not true tbh, i dont detest her, indeed i quite like 'sweet dreams my la x', and i much prefer her over mariah, geri, britney, celine etc etc etc...

the point i was making is that several people here cite their favs, who have had decent chart success, which hardly means they are underrated especially like geri for eg, they have had several #1s or top ten hits.

you know me, i dont think you can class the puppets in the same league as competant artistes like luci silvers. rachel has had more success then luci, but who here is the talented one ? who here is the underrated one?

I understand your point and I think what you're saying is very reasonable. I hope you understood mine ;)

Kristin Hersh - formerly of excellent Indie band Throwing Muses, but has released solo albums as well full of quite disturbing, yet achingly beautiful, sad and melancholic songs. Check out "Hips and Makers", you will NOT be disappointed, she is wonderful and has had nothing like the credit she deserves...

Tanya Donelly - Kristin Hersh's half-sister, was in Throwing Muses, left to form her own band Belly, who had one excellent and one so-so album, her solo stuff's pretty damned good, but not really in the same league as Kristin's...

Melissa Auf Der Maur - Sorta counts as a solo artist as she used her surname as the name of her band...

Diamanda Galas - Truly horrifying Opera/Goth scariness. Stuff like Marilyn Manson tries to be scary, but Diamanda Galas really is......

Rachel Stevens isn't underated, she doesn't perfom well because she's AWFUL. Give other people her songs and they'd be bigger. FACT.

Actually I always thought she was a great performer despite only having one live performance as a solo artist, she had that presence so she always looked good onstage IMO.

Point taken. ^_^

Id agree with Amy Studt she has so much potential!

Ashlee Simpson, Michelle Branch and Beverly Knight also.

Presence, maybe, but she aint got either the actual singing talent (a very average voice, not even in the Kelly Clarkson or Amy Lee league) or the material....

Well yeah she's not the best singer in the world but I still liked her voice all the same. ;) It'd be interesting to see if she writes more songs as I was suprised at how good the three she wrote were :o a song called Waiting Game which was a b-side could have been a great single -_-

She's still one of my favourites as she gets given good songs  But she's no Kylie or Goldfrapp  (which are funnily enough the people she's trying to be lol...)

I'm no Kylie fan, but I'd rather listen to her than Rachel Stevens anyday  . As for Goldfrapp...well she could try for the next hundred years and she still wouldn't get close to the amazing Alison.....

i think most people in the pop forum are thinking who the f?ck

who did the cannonball single was it belly or throwing muses? that was on e4 the other day. it rocks

Ashlee Simpson, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Kym Marsh And Michelle McManus!

All these are underated and should be given a fair go!! :cheer:

Sophie and michelle to have comebacks with albums soon!

what do you mean by 'a fair go'?... they all had a fair go, too fair some might say...

Rachel Stevens - she recorded a critically acclaimed album with "Come & Get It" with all amazing electro-pop songs, still the album scraped the Top 30 and the singles only managed No.10 and No.12 possitions.

er....they failed to be any bigger hits because they'd ALREADY been in the charts recorded by Goldfrapp! Stevens' last few singles have been criminal rip-off's of the 'Frapp's 'Strict Machine' and 'Train'.

She's over-rated if anything.

but Goldfrapp have been indie press darlings for years. think the only person who doesnt rate them is that person in the press the other weekend that said she was a second rate madonna wannabe. apart from that alway one of those acts that the 'inky fingers' press loved.

anyway i think i read alison goldfrapp (the singer not the duo) was discovered by members of massive attack, so she must be cool as massive attack have always been send as gods in the press (even with the dodgy last album  ) for about 20 years (i guess this?? dont know when they started could be 1988 for all know!! the wikis having trouble at the mo!! damn)

I loved 100th Window.... especially the Sinead O'Connor tracks - beautiful stuff.

Alison Goldfrapp actually started off singing backing vocals for Tricky around the time of Maxinquaye, and she also worked with Orbital. The only Massive Attack connection is they recorded at the same studios with the same production team, The Insects (who also did Spiritualized, Alison Moyet and Portishead).

And as for the 2nd rate Madonna - I think it's the other way round... they don't call Madonna 'Oldfrapp' for nothing, you know - she's namedropped Goldfrapp at every available opportunity since they became 'hip'. She asked them to work on her last album, too.

They refused :cheer:

I agree with Russt - I'd like to add Negotiate With Love - which I quite liked - probably because of its musical similarity to the mighty Kim Wilde's Cambodia.

Cambodia, thats an odd title? does it mean anything symbolic or was it just about Cambodia?

No Tricky is the Massive Attack connection!!!!

Tricky had left Massive when he recorded Maxinquaye.... under VERY bad terms.
