Ive been thinking. Nowadays we seem to get the odd veteran artists hitting #1 (such as Madonna etc) but all the #1s are either novely acts, charity singles or from artists that will probably never grace the top of the charts again or even the charts at all for that matter.

So is #2 the NEW #1?

Mariah Carey - We Belong Together #2

YES I think so.

Exactly.

Charlotte Church cough cough.

All the good stuff misses the top of the charts these days.

I have to agree, the singles this year that have reached the top spot this year have been awful :(

I can't think of any I like

It's not really anything new. There are plenty of songs regarded as all time classics that didn't get to number one, and plenty of cheesy novelty stuff got to number one before as well.

Remember all number one means is they sold the most records that week. It doesn't mean the record has to be any good.

Yes nowaday artists that sell loads of albums don't tend to have #1 in the single chart anymore but manifactured one his wonders do.

#2 is definatly the new #1

someone with a bit of sense

Mentioning no names, I'm wondering if there's sour grapes because two certain fat '90s stars only got to number two with their biggest hit last year.

actually it didnt say anything about pop in the 90s

and charlotte has been in the fatty feature in heat now and again

Robbie? :S

Robbie? :S

ok, was imagining artists that would normally feature in a heat fatty feature

That's the way it's always been! nothing new  imo most of the best songs of the 90's were #2s (Common People, Bittersweet Symphony and Wonderwall to name a few!)

This year we have had some decent #1s like Arcitc Monkeys and Madonna but the others are just the usual with the mixture of novelty reality acts like Chico and songs from artists that may or may not last but I think Gnarls Barkley for example will last considering they're both legends who have been involved in plenty of hits in the past. ;)

And?

Its those kind of 'features' that trigger eating disorders and people getting plastic surgery cos they want to be skinny ****s like Victoria Beckham.

The myth that the best songs always get to #2 isn't wrong, I can name some of my favourite tracks ever that got to #2.

Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My L.A Ex

Rachel Stevens - Some Girls

Mariah Carey - We Belong Together

Nothing by Lisa unfortunately.
