16th Lucky Star 82 Points

The first song Madonna wrote as a signed artist was Lucky Star, a simple but catchy love song.

Released in march 1984.After Madonna's debut hit "Holiday" critics labled her as a one hit wonder Madonna

gained a second UK top 20 hit single to her name.Rumors have it that it's Guy Ritchie's favourite Madonna song it's also on the Snatch OST.

Rumors have it Madonna will re-invent this song on the upcoming"Confessions"Tour this year she last performed this song in 1987.

'Lucky Star' is great - I hope it being this low is not a sign that 'Borderline' will be near the bottom too.
PS I'm not sure about 'Rescue Me' being overlooked. I must have listened to this album a thousand times and I still can't remember how that song goes.

15th Live To Tell 83 Points

This is the first single Madonna wanted to prove to the world she was a serious artist. After

past hits such as "holiday","Material Girl".Live To Tell was the lead single from the True Blue

album and taken from the soundtrack of the film "At Close Range".The Ballad did well

for her giving her a thirdno.1 single in the US & second no.2 in the UK.

14th Cherish 84 Points

Released in September 1989.The third single from the "Like A Prayer" a third top 3 hit from the album in the US. There aren't many other Madonna songs that pay tribute to the beauty of love better than Cherish does.

13th Open Your Heart

Originally this song was titled 'Follow Your Heart' and written for Cyndi Lauper. But Madonna used it instead, changing the lyrics and turning it into a dance song for the True Blue album. The fourth single of an album usually doesn't chart big, but this one did. It topped the charts in the US (her fifth no. 1) and in Japan, and got top 5 in the UK.The song also shares the same line as Madonna's 1998 no.1 hit Frozen of "You hold the key".

12th Justify My Love 88 Points

Teaming up with rockstar Lenny Kravitz, Madonna gave her audience a preview of her upcoming raunchy sex period. This erotic single dominated the US charts for two weeks. Selling over 1 million copies, it became her third platinum singleAlthough the lyrics were already pretty clear, the video by Jean Baptiste Mondino emphasized on the erotic theme of the song. Madonna walks through the halls of the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris, wearing a long raincoat. When she kneels down you can see her sexy lingerie underneath. As she walks past the rooms, the viewer can peak through the open doors and see people in some erotic adventures. Madonna makes love with Tony Ward, porn star and then-boyfriend, but not before he watches her kiss some androgynous person.

The video breaks all boundaries of sexuality. It's still seen as one of Madonna's most controversial videos. No surprise that it was banned from MTV. Instead it premiered on Nightline on December 3rd, followed by an interview in which Forrest Sawyer wondered if Madonna had gone too far this time. Little did she know about the Erotica period that was still to come! Madonna turned the ban into her profit, releasing the video on VHS. Justify My Love became the first ever video single, as well as the best selling. The Video sold over 440,000 copies in a week. Also notable is that Justify My Love was the first Madonna single remixed by William Orbit, who would co-produce Ray Of Light 7 years later.

11th Borderline 89 Points

In this love song Madonna asks her boyfriend to make up his mind, because she's crazy in love with him. The fans were crazy about the song too, because Madonna scored her first US top 10 hit when she released Borderline in 1984. It would also become her first Gold certification.

This was the first video by Mary Lambert, who would later also direct Like A Virgin, Material Girl, La Isla Bonita and Like A Prayer.

'Borderline' did quite well. That's one of my favourites.

And 'Justify My Love' is one of her best. It's filth and it doesn't have a chorus yet it's, somehow, an amazing pop song.

10th La Isla Bonita 90 Points

Madonna Broke records with this song in the UK "La Isla Bonita" marked her fourth UK no.1 single the only female in history at the time to have four no.1's.With the fifth and last single From the album "True Blue"Madonna's music got a spanish-latin influence, something she would use many times again in her career (with Spanish Eyes, Veras, Evita and Lo Que Siente La Mujer, to name a few). Madonna shows off a complete Spanish image, dressed in a full-red flamenco dress, dancing around and crawling on the floor between lots of candles in the video.

9th Crazy For You 91 Points

In 1985 Madonna made a cameo appearance in the movie Vision Quest: she's seen as a singer in a club. She performs the song Crazy For You. This lovely balad became Madonna's second no. 1 hit in the US (after Like A Virgin), which was certified gold. It also reached no. 1 in Australia and Japan, and no. 2 in the UK (the no. 1 was for Sister Sledge's 'Frankie'). While the single scored high, the movie didn't. That's why the movie was released in Europe with the title "Crazy For You".Crazy For You remixed version was released in the UK in 1991 to help promote The Immaculate Collection that also went to no.2.

Crazy For You was performed for the first time live on the Virgin Tour. It took nearly 19 years before it was put back on another setlist. During the re-Invention tour, Madonna dedicated this song to all her fans who had stuck by her for 20 years. Standing on a higher side stage, she stood close to the crowd and sung this beautiful ballad to her fans. At every "crazy for YOU", she pointed at the crowd, while the fans - many of them full of emotions - did the same and pointed at her. It was a very sweet way to thank us for all those years...

Two of her average songs IMO. Hopefully, Like A Prayer, Like A Virgin or Vogue will win
