Wanna know more about Arctic Monkeys? Well just look in this thread :cheer: Where I've basically just copied the info but I promise I'll make the effort to make alterations :D I'll highlight the alterations I have made in bold ;)

Firstly credits go to Wikipedia and Mardy-Bum.com

Firstly here is the history of the band courtesy of Wikipedia and erm... me :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arctic Monkeys are a four-piece indie rock band from Sheffield, England that have been described as a northern Libertines, but many fans of the band suggest that they have an even brighter future ahead of them.

They received a great deal of early attention from Radio 1 and the British tabloid press for their catchy songs and witty lyrics. The appearance they made on the Carling Stage at the 2005 Reading and Leeds Festivals was much hyped by the music press, the NME in particular, and the band was received by an abnormally large crowd for the billing they played. The superb performance even included spontaneous sing-a-longs from the more madly devoted fans of the band. Impressively, this included tracks that were only available as demos on the internet. It was at this time that vocalist Alex Turner took the opportunity to rebuff claims that his band could not live up to the hype that has followed their emergence, and declared, "It feels like a moment, us playing here."

In May 2005 Arctic Monkeys released their debut single Five Minutes with the Arctic Monkeys, featuring the songs Fake Tales of San Francisco and From the Ritz to the Rubble. This release was limited to 1000 in CD format and 500 in 7". In June 2005 the band were signed to Domino Records, they released their first proper single, I Bet Look Good on the Dancefloor on 17th October 2005 with Bigger Boys and Stolen sweethearts and Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick as the B-sides. The video was played on MTV2 and it made it way onto the Radio A-List. The single shot straight to number one and was quite a long runner for an indie single. The media then started to really pay attention to the Arctic Monkeys and it's clear that as the hype was starting to build up after the number one the already huge fanbase that was built on sharing demos over the internet was growing and they were by now the most talked about new band in the country.

In September 2005 the band finshed recording their debut album at a studio in Lincolnshire which was released in January 2006.

Arctic Monkeys did a UK and worldwide tour that started on 2nd of October 2005 at The Cavern in Liverpool the tour which included 30 dates finished on the 23rd of November 2005 in Tokyo.

In January 2006 the next single 'When The Sun Goes Down' (Which was known as 'Scummy' when it was a demo) and as most people expected it was their second number one single. By this time the album was getting rave reviews from the music press including a not suprising 10/10 from the NME who have been one of the Arctics' biggest supporters in their road to their phenominal success so far. Of course just like every band they had their critics too but how would the general public react? The album which was titled 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' was actually brought forward from it's original 30th January release to 23rd January because of such high demand. The tracklisting was as follows:

1. "The View From The Afternoon" (3:38)

2. "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" (2:53)

3. "Fake Tales Of San Francisco" (2:58)

4. "Dancing Shoes" (2:21)

5. "You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me" (2:10)

6. "Still Take You Home" (2:53)

7. "Riot Van" (2:15)

8. "Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured" (2:23)

9. "Mardy Bum" (2:55)

10. "Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But..." (4:28)

11. "When the Sun Goes Down" (3:20)

12. "From The Ritz To The Rubble" (3:13)

13. "A Certain Romance" (5:31)

On it's first day of release 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' sold 120,000 copies and the total first week sales were 363,735 which was the fastest selling debut EVER.

I can't be bothered to do anymore for now :P I'll try and get it up to date it as soon as possible ;)
