Lindsay Lohan could be spared jail after it was revealed there is a "strong possibility" that the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office will not charge her with possessing cocaine.

 

The Mean Girls actress is likely to face drink-driving misdemeanour charges in connection with her arrests in both May and July, the latter involving a car chase.

 

The lesser charge means she could serve a jail sentence of four days rather than three years.

 

According to TMZ.com, Lohan's lawyer Blair Berk has been negotiating with prosecutors to secure the best deal for his client.

 

District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said no definite decision had been made on either case, adding: "A public discussion of potential charges prior to a case being filed would be inappropriate and potentially unethical."

 

The troubled 21-year-old has been in rehab twice this year.

I see this as being in the same category as Pete Doherty, the courts just genuinely seem completely unwilling to take any sort of stand and lock them up.

I'm really getting sick of this... Just why the hell should the likes of Lohan, Paris Hilton or Pete Doherty be allowed to make such total mockeries of the so-called "justice system"...? She's being spared jail just so she can promote whatever crummy fukkin' film she's in????? She was involved in a sodding CAR CHASE on the busy streets of LA in which someone could easily have been seriously injured or killed.. She's had two chances already to turn her life around, she hasn't bothered her arse to sort herself out through rehab, so, I'm sorry, it's high time she (and Doherty..) were put in prison for a couple of years and FORCED to go Cold Turkey in the prison hospital...

 

I'm sick of these "celeb scum" getting away with it... Why should the rest of us obey the law, when these people are clearly getting off the hook.....? I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think every one of us should break the law, or openly take drugs, and then use as our defence the statement "well, Pete Doherty and Lindsay Lohan get away with it, why shouldn't I....?", and take it all the way to the Euro Court of Human Rights.... Show up the system for the utter joke that it is.....
