On the week ending 15 July 2006, Rihanna's single SOS was at number 27, and the following week it was out of the chart (top 75). did it just drop almost 50 places because people stopped buying it or was it because of downloads not allowed to chart? could some one help?
There was some rule that was introduced briefly that only allowed songs on the chart for a certain amount of time, something about preventing it from overshadowing the follow-up single. 'Crazy', 'Maneater' and 'Chasing Cars' were also victims but they all returned at a later date when the rule was revoked.
The week it dropped out of the chart was the week 'Unfaithful' was physically released. It dropped out of the chart because at that time, the chart rules said that if a song is still charting and is avaliable on another song's release, it will be deleted from the chart, and 'Unfaithful' included a remix of 'SOS', hence why it dropped. It still ended up as the 9th biggest selling single of the year.
