Robbie's a right old Blockhead

The Sun

http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00415/SNF08BIZJJ_280_415621a.jpg

BLOCKHEADS star CHAZ JANKEL’s collaboration with ROBBIE WILLIAMS is great news for the Robster.

But I’m not sure the same can be said for Blockheads fans.

Chaz will miss their gig at Cox’s Yard in Stratford-upon-Avon tonight because he is still working with Robbie in LA.

But never fear, PHILL JUPITUS is here. The comic will be fronting the band, as he has in the past.

A source revealed: “Chaz won’t be at the show because he is with Rob.

"He has got the support of his band and is still very much part of the group. But fans shouldn’t be too disappointed. Phill will be there.”

I can reveal that Robbie has wanted to work with Chaz for years.

He is a big Blockheads fan and performed with the band after frontman IAN DURY lost his battle with cancer in 2000.

The source said: “Robbie asked Chaz to write with him four years ago but he called again recently and they made it happen.”

Robbie, engaged in a tussle with EMI, warned fans earlier this month not to expect his proper new album until 2009.

But I’ve heard the funky stuff he’s doing with Chaz could give the grumpy star something to smile

Hi guys.......have tip-toed in here to say hello. Yes I am a Will fan but I also like Robbie and just wanted to say I hope we get an album sometime this year . We're still waiting for ours too but as things stand I'm rather glad Wills not with EMI. You all must feel a bit anxious at the mo.

Rob gets a lot of bad press but then thats the media for you . Liking the gallery pictures too, very nice...I shall pop back from time to time to have a little oggle :D

Superstar so in tune for top DJ

AGONY(& THE LBS) PILING ON FOR SAD ROBBIE

By Alice Walker, Emma Donnan & Katie Hind

The Robster is hooking up with Brit-nominated producer MARK RONSON to make records together.

Ronson, 32, close pal of AMY WINEHOUSE, has revealed that he and Robbie have already discussed the finer details.

The DJ and producer, who has been put up for three awards at next month's Brits, said: "I saw Robbie in LA and he played me some of his fresh songs. I was honestly blown away by some of the best songs I have ever heard and we talked a lot about making a record together."

Robbie has once again been snubbed by the Brits and hasn't been nominated for an award.

Things got worse for him when he went on strike following a shake-up at his record label, EMI.

Meanwhile, speaking at the launch of the Brits at London's Roundhouse last week, Ronson said of his troubled friend Amy, 24: "She's not in a good place right now." The pair holed up at London's K West hotel to work on songs.

Thanks for dropping in. Hopefully there will be an album out later this year, but it is looking like it won't be till next year, but Rob will be releasing new material via his webside (B-sides) as he said in his blog so that is something to look forward to.

It is a bit confusing what the next album will be. Obviously it will be original material. But what I am wondering is what has happened to this Swing album he was contracted to do, because in all of these broadsheet articles about him and EMI over the past few weeks, it has constantly been mentioned he has one more album to do, and then there will be a 'Best Of' which EMI can release when they please (up to 2012). Rob said in 2006, that he would be releasing Swing as it is part of the contract and another studio album, so unless the Swing is considered the 'Best of' as it is not original songs, then it does'nt look like there will be a Swing anymore. THANK GOD if that is so. :P

I am hoping that we have heard the last of the ' SWING' as well...I have fingers/toes & everyting else crossed that it will not happen as I could just not bring myself to buy another Robbie Swing album.....  even if it is Robbie ....          I am just not in the Mooooooooooooood for Swing again..... ^_^

Thanks for the kind words...although I haven't a clue what Rhyming swear words is all about  Sounds as if you have quite a wait then for the album which is a shame. Was hoping to be able to have that myself later this year. I was playing Rudebox today & although its true to say its not my favourite by a mile there are one or two little gems on there that I am really warming to....its just taken rather a long while!!! I think when we do eventually get some new material from him it'll be something really special. I'd love to see all these critics who put him down to be left with egg on their faces.

Interesting that you don't seem to welcome a swing album. Not my cup of tea either but it sometimes makes a nice change. I was lucky enough to see Will at Ronnie Scotts jazz club this year where he did some classics and it went down a storm. For those that asked (apologies for the peeps who have no interest - just scroll down  ) Will was supposed to be putting his music on the back burner to do some acting in 2007. Although he did a play in Manchester in the first part of the year we have been lucky enough to have a few small gigs. Plus the proms and the Concert for Diana of course. With his album out this year we are optimistic things are about to 'take off'

I wouldn't take too much notice of Robbie being ignored by the Brits committee...I don't think judging by the comments I've read recently that its taken seriously by most people anymore. It seems to be a promotional tool for anyone whose seen as being 'new & cool'

Anyway, thanks for the info......perhaps I should venture out more often :) I look forward to the album however long it takes.....all good things and all that...

Tillywhim....what I mean when I say Rhyming Swear words....you are obviously not too familiar with The Blockheads then......I have to say that are still a really fantastic group of musicians even after all these years...maybe that is the secret ...the older they get the better they are ....

Here are some examples of their songs & one that includes Robbie who sang Sweet Gene Vincent after Ian Dury from the Blockheads had passed away...

I hope you enjoy them & I for one was thrilled when it was confirmed that Robbie was working with Chaz on the album...I think it will be fantastic ..at least I hope so....

Thanks for dropping by & for the info on Will...I am looking forward to hearing him back again & seeing him at Ronnie Scots must have been ace.

Rudebox does have some really nice tracks on it but I was not too keen on so many covers & thought his own original tracks were the best on that album ...The Actor/80's/90's/Viva Life On Mars & Burselem Normals...I just think he put far too many tracks on the album in the first place....

As far as the bad comments are concerned...they make those comments because Robbie IS somebody ...iF he wasn't they would not bother...its' called the ' Green Eyed Monster Syndrome....

Chaz Jankel speaks after LA sessions with star

NME

http://static.nme.com/images/84_RobbieWilliams_L250107.jpg

Robbie Williams is busy writing new material with Blockheads star Chaz Jankel - and Ian Dury's old pal insists the singer is on "top form".

Williams contacted Jankel, the co-writer of hits such as 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' and 'Reasons To Be Cheerful Part 3' with Dury, in a bid to boost his own hit-making potential.

Although it was announced recently that Williams was \"on strike\" from label EMI, he is a big fan of the new wave band - and became friendly with Dury just before his death in 2000 - so decided to invite Jankel to Los Angeles for a "some intensive writing sessions".

"Working with Robbie is great - it's extraordinary being part of this songwriting team," Jankel told NME.COM from Los Angeles. "Kelvin and Danny of Sound 5 are bringing a very sharp yet witty contribution to the affair."

Jankel added: "Robbie is on top form and the atmosphere is totally conducive to writing great music."

The Blockheads, who are currently celebrating their 30th anniversary and are still touring (often with the

Blockhead megafan, comedian Phill Jupitus taking over vocals), are reassuring fans that they are not losing a member of

the band to Williams' clutches.

"We are thrilled for Chaz," explained keyboardist Mickey Gallagher, "This is something Robbie should have done a

long time ago!"

Williams is cagey about when his new work with Jankel will be released, although the The Blockheads are set to release a new

anniversary album in April.

How exciting :D

I know Mr Mac.....I just cannot wait......

No ballads then by the looks of things... ^_^ ..cannot see Chaz in to ballads somehow.... :P :P :P :P

As do I. Rob does ballads better than most and he loves ballads, so I do think there will be a few. Chaz co-wrote 'Youre The Why' which is a ballad I supose, and an amazing one at that. Besides, I doubt the whole album will be what they come up with. I hope some Guy/Rob material makes it on there too, as well as Mark Ronson :D
I like Swing

Swing.....Ughg...!!!!!! :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2: :puke2:
