September 5, 200717 yr it wont stop ppl smoking! x Thanks for your contribution mate, but for the future please be aware that "txtspk" is a big no-no on the Perspectives Forum.... :)
September 5, 200717 yr This means I'll get more brats coming up to me asking me to buy them cigarettes then I guess  Even though I look about 12 myself :manson: I don't smoke, but if this was introduced a couple of years ago I would be quite annoyed because this starts the day before my birthday, so hypothetically it couldn't be a worse date for me  As other people have said though, this won't change much but hopefully it'll mean the 14 year olds who JUST look 16 will have to look elsewhere for their cigarettes.
September 5, 200717 yr Author Thanks for your contribution mate, but for the future please be aware that "txtspk" is a big no-no on the Perspectives Forum.... :) It's a big :nono: on BuzzJack ^_^
September 5, 200717 yr Pointless, if anything it will INCREASE teenage smoking as kids will be all the more determined to smoke because it will make them look cool in impressing their mates by doing something illegal. Forbidden fruit always had the best taste to me when I was a kid and nothing has changed decades later so this will backfire on the government big time
September 5, 200717 yr Author ^ I don't think it'll increase it that much. I mean, when I was younger people smoked to try something new, not so much because they wanted to look cool. I guess everyone's different though.
September 5, 200717 yr It's a big :nono: on BuzzJack ^_^ I think it's okay to do it on The Lounge, because that section is just so random anyway..... ^_^

September 5, 200717 yr I hate txt spk full stop, does my head in Would love it if it was banned everywhere on BJ ^_^ its just lazyness in my opinion, if someone can't be bothered to type properly in a thread then their viewpoint is worthless

It's just too much effort to try and decipher what people are saying.
September 5, 200717 yr I used to ryt lyk this evrywhere on the internet and MSN, now I type everything properly though, text speak pisses me off when it isn't in a text. On smoking, I know for a fact the place where I usually get mine from won't be IDing everyone who doesn't look 21! He just tries to scab money out of people at every given opportunity. :heehee:
September 5, 200717 yr I hate IDing people! It doesn't help that in my very oversized Tesco uniform I look about 12 so I get agro from customers!
September 5, 200717 yr text talk IS banned on bj... not just in here, however there are sensible exceptions... like 'lol'..

September 5, 200717 yr They are not txt spk as such they are long term net language ^_^ I was using terms like that while mobile phones were the size of house bricks Ooh really? Good then, because that means I don't use any text language at all  How very O/T :teresa:
September 5, 200717 yr I don't see the point. It won't stop anybody, I doubt many shops will enforce it, and what about the bunch of 16/17 year olds that smoke, is it fair to suddenly turn around and tell them they can't? People treat smokers like second class citizens sometimes.

People treat smokers like second class citizens sometimes. They have to enforce it. It is a law - they have no choice in the matter. Every week the store I work in has at least one mystery shopper (which is essentially an under 18 shopper trying to buy alcohol sent by the authority to check that we deserve to keep our trading laws) and if we don't comply we are fined and if it keeps happening we lose our license to sell alcohol/cigarettes Edited September 5, 200717 yr by Bry

September 5, 200717 yr and the person who sells it to an underage person can get a £2000 or is it £20,000 fine, and can face a criminal conviction and would probably be sacked for losing the shop its licence I often worry about that myself. I work in Wilko's and we sell knives and stuff, and usually if it's an age restricted product it comes up on the screen but for some stuff it doesn't and if it doesn't come up and it's fake nails or a razor then I usually scan it straight through without batting an eyelid! I could apparently face up to six months in prison if caught. Not my fault though if they don't have automatic sensor things come up on the screen telling me to ID them. -_-
