September 9, 200717 yr I thought Wyclef Jean did it orginally for Dirty Dancing 2, but like they changed the lyrics to fit Shakira or something.

September 9, 200717 yr Her name was Claudette Ortiz, I don't think I've spelt it right, but it is along those lines :P It was originally called 'Dance Like This' and was produced by Wyclef. The song also samples an old latin song by Jerry Rivera
September 11, 200717 yr T4M41hssHSM It's originally a Wyclef song that was used for Havana Nights. Shakira's record company asked Wyclef to do a remix of La Tortura and Wyclef decided to send them Dance Like This with some different ad libs on, including the "Shakira Shakira" bit. Shakira must've liked it because it became Hips Don't Lie. She re wrote her verses, added the chorus "I'm on tonight..." and added the reggaeton beat. That's why Shakira gets a lot of stick from some of her fans, because technically, HDL could be viewed as just a cover.
October 22, 200717 yr its a reworking  a cover is when you don't change anything at all. HDL had new verses written by shakira, added production plus a new bridge.
