I'm not totally surprised Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick didn't make that top 100 list.....

And, I can see where Brian May would be placed at #5, shocked that Kurt Cobain at 13, he would have been much lower on my list...

Also, I's have put Ritchie Blackmore higher than where he was....

All is just my opinion, for what little it's worth.

I know this relates to the quality of the material rather than the ability of the guitarist and it's only an opinion but for me 68 - Graham Coxon (Blur) really sticks out !

And a too low place for Django Reinhardt!

Terry Kath (guitarist from the original line up of Chicago) got snubbed. 25 or 6 to 4 is a great example of the guy's skill.

Hold on, slash, higher than satriani, thats not right, slash isnt that good, he's well known, but im 12 years old and i can play all his songs, he is not better than satriani

Glad to see Hendrix as number 1 :D

But why is dimebag so low? :(

I'd agree with Jimmy Page at 2 for studio albums. But live, although he could sometimes be amazing(especially early on, see the 1970 Led Zep albert halls performances on youtube), he was very sloppy a lot of times as well, so I'd mark him down a tad there.

I'd prefer Tony Iommi much higher than he is , top 10 certainly, especially live. Anyway, he was one of, (arguably THE) the creators of metal,...so should be higher for that anyway, imo :).

I'd put Brian May at number 2. Wonderful guitarist, studio or live, hardly ever makes a mistake. A master of his instrument.

Although Jim Hendrix isnt my absolute personal favourite(That's Dave Edmonds*), I'd still agree with his number one slot. A great player and innovator. who inspired so much and created a style of guitar playing that changed the way people play the instrument forever.

* Yes, my fav isnt even in the list :(

Jimmy Hendrix is definitelty the all time greatest in my eyes. And then of course, then there is Keith Richardson is one of the best Dont Do Drugs Campaign ever. He has contributed more than his fare share by fare to the game.

I know very little about guitar playing but I like James Dean Bradfield's command of a wide variety of styles. He often reverts to Slash style fillers and licks but over the course of MSPs albums he has shown remarkable versatility.

I also like Graham Coxon, Russell Lissack, Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler.

This list is spoiled by stupid inclusions like Hetfield (who is at best decent) in the top 20 whilst genuine talents like Randy Rhodes and Kerry King are lower down.
Also, I's have put Ritchie Blackmore higher than where he was....

All is just my opinion, for what little it's worth.

Worth a lot - I'd say that Blackmore should have been a lot higher.

Thanks for great list you provided here. Not sure that is absolutely right but thanks for making it available here.

Kurt Cobain was a truly talented songwriter but had nowhere near the guitar chops as those such as B.B King or Randy Rhoads. Personally, i didn't see Paul Gilbert on that list but if he is, that's a nice addition to the list.

Griffo's Friend B)

Django Reinhardt at 73? He should be in top 20.

And Rory Gallagher at 43 is a f****** joke- easily a top 5 on my list!

I would place Jeff Beck and Paul Kossoff in top 10 too.

Robert Johnson should be much higher in a top 20.
