September 20, 200717 yr Author avram grant and steve clarke are now in control of the team... how do people think they will do? how long before a full time replacment is made at chelsea?? guus hiddink possibly because of the links with russia and roman??
September 20, 200717 yr No chance of it being Hiddink Abramovich needs to keep Putin sweet to avoid fraud charges out in Russia so if Hiddink leaves the job just after signing a new contract then Putin will be extremely pissed off with Abramovich I would say most likely next manager is Capello or Ramos
September 20, 200717 yr The question is now, will the Chelsea team implode without Mourinho, as many of the team were staying there because of him (Terry and Lamps to name a couple) will they want out now he has gone? Will the team just implode on sunday against Manchester United and for the rest of the season? They won't implode. From what I gather though the team morale was very high in the Chelsea dressing room and they'll have all been fairly close to the Mourinho and I guess with so much media attention on this story at the moment it will definitely effect them in some way or another. I guess it just depends on which manager eventually replaces Jose as to whom may stay and whom may go. The new manager that comes in will have a totally different idea of where he wants to take the squad and what players he wants so there could be a small exodus of players at Chelsea over the next few years. But both Lampard and Terry have only recently signed new contracts right? (or at least they were in talks)
September 20, 200717 yr Mourinho moving to Tottenham would seem to be a logical move. Tottenham have some money, a manager that on the surface is not performing. Mourinho managing Tottenham would be good reason for some Chelsea players to move club without the family moving location and in turn his presence would be enough to attract players that would not otherwise consider playing for Tottenham.

September 20, 200717 yr Chelsea say Mourinho had to leave BBC Sports News Jose Mourinho left Stamford Bridge because the relationship between club and manager broke down, say Chelsea. Mourinho stunned football by parting company with Chelsea late on Wednesday, and has been replaced by Avram Grant. "The reason the decision has been taken is that we believed the breakdown started to impact on the performance of the team," said a Chelsea statement. "Recent results supported this view. We did not want this to continue or affect the club further." Mourinho made an emotional farewell to his players at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Thursday, an occasion that is understood to have left striker Didier Drogba in tears. And following the shock news, the club released an "open letter to its fans" to thank supporters for their "patience and understanding during what has been a difficult time". We had all reached a point where the relationship between the club and Jose had broken down. This was despite genuine attempts over several months by all parties to resolve certain differences Chelsea statement The statement said: "It is only right that we explain the reasons behind Jose Mourinho leaving Chelsea and also recognise the immense contribution he has made to the club and to English football. "Early this morning we announced that Chelsea and Jose Mourinho had agreed to part company by mutual consent. "The key phrase here is that there was mutual agreement. Jose did not resign and he was not sacked. "What is clear, though, is we had all reached a point where the relationship between the club and Jose had broken down. This was despite genuine attempts over several months by all parties to resolve certain differences." And the club praised Mourinho for his achievements at the club, which included winning successive Premier League titles. "Chelsea's long-term football objectives and ambitions remain unchanged, and the appointment of Avram Grant and Steve Clarke is aimed at continuing to achieve those goals. "We also must pay tribute to the great job Jose did for Chelsea. He has been the most successful manager the club has known and he rightly deserves that place in our history. "Jose has been instrumental in putting Chelsea where it is today, among the leading clubs in European and world football. "He will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, whether as the guest of Chelsea or as the manager of another club, and he will be given the reception and respect his position in our history deserves." Grant, 52, steps up to the role of Chelsea manager from director of football and will be assisted by Steve Clarke. The Israeli is due to be unveiled at a news conference on Friday. Mourinho, meanwhile, is in line to receive up to £25m in compensation after three years in charge of the Blues, BBC Sport understands. The Portuguese still has another three years to run on his reputed £5.2m-a-year deal. Lawyers for both sides are still working on the severance package that will include confidentiality clauses. According to BBC football correspondent Jonathan Legard, discussions are said to be well advanced as the split was seen coming. Legard has also been told Mourinho has felt a sense of relief since his departure. "He's felt boxed-in from demands on high, he's felt boxed-in from the boardroom in terms of boardroom dealings," said Legard. "And he's felt under pressure from those alongside him in the dugout, namely the man who has succeeded him, Avram Grant." Chelsea have confirmed that Mourinho's backroom staff have also left the club, including assistant managers Baltemar Brito and Rui Faria. Head opposition scout Andre Villas and goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro have also departed Stamford Bridge.

September 20, 200717 yr But is Mourinho going linked with this story....... Uefa hands Scolari four-match ban BBC Sports News Luiz Felipe Scolari has been given a four-match ban by Uefa for improper conduct after an incident in Portugal's 1-1 draw with Serbia on 12 September. The Portugal coach was also fined 12,120 Euros (£8,479) for his part in a scuffle with defender Ivica Dragutinovic after the final whistle. Uefa said Scolari would not be able to go into the dressing room or pitch-side during four Euro 2008 qualifiers. "In addition, he will not be allowed to communicate with his team," he added. Sevilla star Dragutinovic, meanwhile, has been banned for two matches for his part in the incident, but both men have three days to lodge an appeal. Scolari appeared to lash out after Dragutinovic was sent off - afterwards claiming the defender insulted his family - but denied making any contact. "Words in Spanish directed at my family, I understand perfectly well," he said. "As such when I reacted, it was the wrong reaction but sometimes even rational and normal people err." If his appeal is denied it means Scolari will be banned for Portugal's qualifying games in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in October, and home ties against Armenia and Finland in November. Dragutinovic will miss Serbia's qualifying games in Armenia and Azerbaijan in October. "It was obvious that the Portuguese lost their cool because they weren't happy with the result," said Serbia coach Javier Clemente. "I can't understand how a coach who has won the World Cup cannot stand to lose. If he isn't capable of doing this he should change jobs." Portugal have drawn their last three qualifying games and fallen off the pace in their group. They lie third, four points shy of Poland in top spot, and having seen Serbia draw level with an 88th-minute goal from Branislav Ivanovic the setback clearly inflamed Scolari. So if Scolari loses his appeal he will not be able to enter the stadiums of the next four European qualifying matches, with Portugal already in a perilous situation. I wonder if Brazilian World Cup winning manager Scolari would fancy getting out of this hotseat towards another job? Whilst suddenly there is a great Portuguese manager without a job? Coincidence, the Football pundits on Radio5 Live seem to think it might not be!

Which kills your argument dead in the water.

Nice theory but the player he assaulted was an opposition player ;) Again Jose would have no interest in working 15-20 days a year and doing nothing the rest of the time at the age of 44 He loves hands on football and training sessions and so on

I am inclined to agree with you though in that I suspect Mourinho isn't interested in managing Portugal at the moment. If Mourinho decides to stay in the Premier League Tottenham would make a certain amount of sense. It would suit his ego to be given a chance to see Tottenham finish above at least one of Chelsea or Arsenal. The one doubt could be the timing. He would have to work for the next three months with the current squad with no chance to bring anyone else in. Edited September 20, 200717 yr by Suedehead2

Brazilian Scolari, who was banned earlier on Thursday, has apologised for lashing out at Serbian player Ivica Dragutinovic after their 1-1 draw in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Sept. 12. Federation president Gilberto Madail said in a statement to reporters he had not yet received UEFA's explanation for the punishment. "However, to suggest a four-game suspension, which Scolari will appeal, according to his rights, if confirmed, is a heavy sanction for the Portuguese team that is playing to qualify for the final phase of the Euro 2008," Madail said. "I met with Scolari for about two hours to share some thoughts on the problem and decided to convene an emergency meeting of directors for Monday. "I am not the owner of the Federation and will accept, like Scolari, any decision that comes from the board of directors." Scolari, who sat next to Madail during the meeting with reporters, said: "Although I have recognised with all honesty my mistake, I think the sanction is excessive. "The player who started this whole situation (Dragutinovic) was suspended for two games. And that is why I will appeal this decision as soon as the Portuguese Federation receives the reasons." However, Madail added "Portugal qualifying for the European Championship finals is of paramount importance. But if we are unsuccessful with the appeal, then we may have to seriously look at other alternatives." With English Premiership side Chelsea & popular Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho parting company today, the Portuguese press is speculating that Scolari could resign (possibly in a job exchange) and be replaced by the former Porto manager who won four consecutive league titles (two at Porto and two at Chelsea) and also the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup with Porto).

I would not be surprised to see JM take on the job on a temporary basis during Big Phil's suspension, that requires little or no time out of his schedule if he does it for those games but he will be breaking every principle of his if he took on the job full time and spent 15 days a year doing football and 350 days playing golf and gardening or whatever, it simply won't happen Mourinho is on record as saying the time he would like to take on the job is for the 2016 European championships and the qualifiers for the 2018 world cup, this guy lives and breathes football there is no way he would take this job on permanantly
September 20, 200717 yr Craig, I mean no disrespect to Spurs or anything but I can't see Jose managing Spurs as I think it's a step down career wise for him. They're way off the pace and don't have the squad capable of challenging for the Premier League and they're not in the Champions League this season and it'll take something this year for them to be in the top 4. I can't see Mourinho managing in the Premiership again tbh. The only 3 clubs he may have gone to I can't see him managing in a million years. The only one I can maybe see him being at it Man Utd. IMO Mourinho now will either become Portugal manager or will just take time out of football. The Barca manager is apparently under pressure from fans and will there be increased pressure now knowing that Mourinho can potentially take charge? And knowing how ruthless Real Madrid have been with their managers over the past year what's not to say 6 months down the line their current manager is sacked and then Mourinho couldn't potentially take over?

If they do qualify, then he could take them to the summer's European Championships Finals before taking on another club job ie: Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan, etc in time for the start of the 2008/09 season.
