Posted September 22, 200717 yr dont you think that the white stripes should be given a mobo too for services to the blues. thats a music of black origin innit, and so they should be given one!!!
September 23, 200717 yr That would be something different :D Their covers of songs by Robert Johnson, Son House and Blind Willie McTell are excellent. Aren't the MOBOs a bit commercial anyway!
September 23, 200717 yr Author Aren't the MOBOs a bit commercial anyway! Not commercial, comical more like
September 25, 200717 yr No, instead the MOBO Awards should be scrapped. It depends how far back you want to trace any kind of music. All modern music is based on the twelve tone equal temperament scale which, unless I'm wrong, is of white origin. All rock 'n' roll has black roots and, yes, it was commercially raped by white businessmen in the 1950's, but inventing an award where white people can only enter if they're 'a bit black in sound' doesn't make up for it. Instead it is patronising, racist and utterly pointless.
September 25, 200717 yr No, instead the MOBO Awards should be scrapped. Spot on Richie... They really are utterly pointless... Just why do the likes of Rihanna and Beyonce get nominated when their "music" could be done by just about any white girl.. What the hell is so "black" about manufactured pop...? If Girls Aloud had done "Umbrella", would it have made any difference??? The Beastie Boys have just come out with an album of deep Funk Fusion and Jazz which would make George Clinton proud... Yet absolutley NO fukkin' MOBO for those guys, what, their music not "black" enough then, huh....??? And didn't the MOBO awards body actually scrap the Jazz category...???   What a fukkin' joke these people, and their lousy awards, are....
September 25, 200717 yr isnt the concept of 'music of black origin' racist anyway? i bet you couldnt have 'music of white origin' <_<
September 25, 200717 yr Yup, totally. Although they've missed the point of completely. Those winning awards here are those who have been 'accepted' by a largely white audience, but these awards should be going out to acts that have predominantly black audiences to allow them the chance to cross over. I didn't see it, but I suspect 'Best Reggae' would have been contested by Sean Kingston, Sean Paul and Shaggy. Best Hip Hop by Kanye West, 50 Cent and, perhaps a token nod to, Dizzee Rascal? It's stupid. It needs sponsors and TV coverage to keep going but they've sold out as a result before they've even started. Why not award the worthy, not the watered down?
September 25, 200717 yr i bet you couldnt have 'music of white origin' What would that be then mate...? Morris Dancing?? The knitted Arran Sweater 'n' Scrumpy Jack 'Folky' brigade??   In all seriousness though, it is a pretty stupid concept anyway...
