Posted May 5, 200619 yr I see in the Metro this evening that Will Young is the latest to pull out of the T4 on the beach gig. Apparently ALL the artists have been asked to mime :o Can you imagine - Feeder, The Zutons - MIMING - what a cheap stunt. WHY? Is it just me who thinks it a total farce? :(
May 5, 200619 yr No, its not just you. :( All of these people have their credibility at stake, its a stupid decision to make and I'm not surprised some respected artists are pulling out.
May 5, 200619 yr TOTP ask all their performers to mime but some refuse, most give in though. Lousi walsh's acts will happily mime their asses off i'm sure -_-
May 5, 200619 yr Author Thats a first. Why on earth are they asking them to mime? It's supposedly down to time and expense involved. OK - maybe it can take time re-shuffling whole kits for bands - but it's worth it surely. Will offered to sing just with a piano - but obviously even that wasn't acceptable. People have bought tickets for this before the miming thing was announced, and before acts pulled out. They should ask for their money back!
May 6, 200619 yr Will could sing acapella but they probably wouldn't accept that. However, this report is from Neil Sean so I take it with a pinch of salt. Edited May 6, 200619 yr by Dot
May 6, 200619 yr the event is a joke anyway - what would the Zutons or the other bands want to do this on T4? its a kids thing.
May 6, 200619 yr The calibre of the artists involved this year make it very much not a kids thing. The likes of these bands accepted the invite because they saw it as a 'festival' type gig where they would each perform a set. Unfortunately, the powers that be have only the TV programme in mind, where sets are cut and mimed performances fit in with the TV scheduling. Probably, solo singers like Will could still do it live with a backing track, but I don't think this is what he'd have had in mind when he signed up for the concert. Likewise all the other acts that are pulling out.
May 6, 200619 yr I don't see it as a kids thing either, I thought it was a fairly good line up last year - diverse anyway, so I was looking forward to watching it. It has the potential to be a great multi-genre annual event, but if this report is true, then it's a pity that as usual - these things are ruined because of industry controls :(
May 7, 200619 yr People have bought tickets for this before the miming thing was announced, and before acts pulled out. They should ask for their money back! The news broke about the mime rule along with a number of acts who had already pulled out several days before the tickets went on sale, but people might still have a case for taking their tickets back. It would force the producers to have a bit more respect for the acts involved and the people buying the tickets. I can't believe anyone believed it would be like a mini-festival, but at the same time they used to manage to let people sing (if not play) live at Party in the Park, which is on a bigger scale.
May 7, 200619 yr Good for Will. Artists with any integrity should refuse point blank to appear unless they can sing 'Live'. Who over the age of 10 is happy to go to a concert where everyone is 'miming'? Or watch on TV for that matter. As soon as Jupiter9 spots a 'mimer' on telly the Channel gets switched.
