September 28, 200717 yr the Friends song is excellent...I have the Max song on single somewhere... the Anna Vissi and tATu songs were hideously overrated
September 28, 200717 yr Well that's not strictly true. The vast majority of diverse or inventive songs were knocked out of the semis this year. If you listened to all 42 songs, then you'd hear a wide wide range of styles and genres, but if you just listen to the 24 that made it to the final, it would seem like any other year. I have all 42 songs from this year, and I agree that it is a shame that many of the more diverse ones (such as Malta et al) were knocked out, but I disagree that there was a narrow range amongst the 24 finalists...there certainly wasn't much Carola-pop!
September 28, 200717 yr Author I have all 42 songs from this year, and I agree that it is a shame that many of the more diverse ones (such as Malta et al) were knocked out, but I disagree that there was a narrow range amongst the 24 finalists...there certainly wasn't much Carola-pop! Ok I suppose actually looking at this year's songs there wasn't that much typical "Eurovision" fare, but there definitely was in 2006 (Sweden, Greece, Belgium, Estonia, Ireland, Ukraine, Switzerland etc etc), so I don't think it's disappeared completely. However, I hope 2008 will be just as diverse as 2007 was.
September 28, 200717 yr Author 35. AUSTRIA 2003 - Alf Poier - Weil Der Mensch Zählt While TATU were definitely the most talked about act during the 2003 Contest, this song got its fair share of attention too. Alf Poier is a stand up comedian from Austria, and this song, written as a send-up of the Contest, and translated as "Man Is The Measure Of All Things," was far and away the favourite to finish last on the night. However, unlike TATU who underperformed on the night, this song despite being performed 2nd on the bill, succeeded anybody's expectations with a memorable performance and finished in 6th place with 101 points. September 28, 200717 yr Author More from Sweden now... 34. SWEDEN 2004 - Lena Philipsson - It Hurts In 34th place it's established Swedish personality Lena Philipsson with her joint 5th placed entry. In a similar situation to Anna Vissi, Lena entered the massive Swedish pre-selection three times in the 80's, before becoming a famous figure in the 1990's. In 2004 she entered again, this time successfully. She was 3rd favourite to win the Contest, and after a polished performance she managed a respectable joint 5th position with 170 points. She is still a big star in her home country, and hosted the 2006 Melodifestivalen. Eurovision Performance szNmCALZPeI
September 29, 200717 yr that Alf "song" is just ridicelous :puke: and i loved the t.A.T.u entry  prediction for the top : Helena or Lordi :D hope for Helena though  would love to see "Die for you" my fave song of the ESC in the 21st century ^_^
September 29, 200717 yr It Hurts was excellent! The music that Sweden do best, though i did like The Ark's entry from this year
September 29, 200717 yr It Hurts was amazing. It was amongst the leaders for the first ten votes or so wasn't it?
September 29, 200717 yr Author 33. TURKEY 2007 - Kenan Dogulu - Shake It Up Shekerim Kenan Dogulu is a well established name in Turkey, first coming to fame in the mid-nineties. Like Anna Vissi and Evridiki, it was clearly a coup for TRT to get Kenan to represent them, however they weren't too happy when he insisted on singing his song in English, even changing the spelling to make it more understandable internationally. He made it easily through the semi-final, no doubt helped by a late draw which Turkish television got to choose, and despite not having massive single sales throughout Europe after the continent and being helped greatly by diaspora voting, his 4th place with 163 points is enough to get him to number 33. September 29, 200717 yr Author *Sigh*....OK here goes.... 32. LITHUANIA 2006 - LT United - We Are The Winners Could it be the worst song ever to grace Eurovision? Lithuania clearly, as one of Eurovision's least successful countries ever, had clearly lost all hope when they sent this to the Contest in 2006. A complete send-up of the competition, nobody really expected it to progress past the semi-final until the actual week of the Contest. Amazingly, almost all of Europe got behind the six-piece, and clearly got the joke. They finished with a very respectable 6th place with 162 points, and became something of a cult hit in 2006, and being the first Eurovision song to make the ringtone chart! September 29, 200717 yr Author 31. CYPRUS 2004 - Lisa Andreas - Stronger Every Minute Now at 31 is Cyprus' second most successful entry ever after Anna Vissi - and from the good old UK! Lisa Andreas was definitely the surprise success story of Eurovision 2004, at only 16 years old she wowed Europe with her voice and despite having a completely static performance with just her on stage, she managed to take 5th place with 170 points. At the moment, now aged 19, Lisa has currently made it through to the boot-camp stages of the X Factor - watch this space! Eurovision Performance yU78a-2KSLQ
September 29, 200717 yr I think Det Gör Ont (Swedish for It Hurts) was better than the English one. And I sure got tATu wrong in my prediction :D I still think Lordi will walk with it, Helena is nowhere near as popular as Lordi. Hopefully you will rank the ESc fans' favourites Invincible and Tornero high :D
September 30, 200717 yr Lisa Andreas was alright... should've entered for the UK though. -_- I don't understand why she didn't want to tbh. :(
September 30, 200717 yr Author Lisa Andreas was alright... should've entered for the UK though. -_- I don't understand why she didn't want to tbh. :( I think it's probably because the UK entries that year were hand-picked, whereas Cyprus had a national final open to anybody, and Lisa is half-Cypriot.
September 30, 200717 yr Author 30. ESTONIA 2002 - Sahlene - Runaway After a fairly good run of results since their debut, Estonia finally won the contest in 2001, bringing the competition to Tallin. Sahlene, who had previously been a backing singer for Charlotte Nilsson's winning entry for Sweden in 1999, was a last minute replacement for Ines in the Estonian national final. She went on to win, and managed joint 3rd place on home ground with 111 points, and moderate chart success. Eurovision Performance _EXQ-zuJR7g
September 30, 200717 yr That was a good song. In 2002 the best four or five songs actually did finish near the top. :o Latvia winning is still quite debatable though...
