23. DENMARK 2001 - Rollo & King - Never Ever Let You Go

2001 was considered by many, including Terry Wogan, as a mediocre year for the Contest in terms of the staging, the voting, the songs and the overall winner. After an hour and a half of nothing much, the home crowd went wild for their song, the last of the night. It had everybody at home tapping their feet and even a by that stage half-cut Wogan pronounced after the response at the end, "Now would you bet against that? That's the one they'll all have to beat!" However, despite actual competition being thin on the ground, being the last song on stage, the home crowd support and the bookies backing them, Rollo & King had to settle for runner-up slot.

It would've been utterly fantastic if this had won :( I disagree though, 2001 had a few fantastic songs :o Just that the absolutely worst one won :manson:
I loved 2001! Thought it was greatly staged and had fantastic presenters. I liked the scoreboard a lot too, and thought there were loads of good songs. ^_^

2001 is the BEST Eurovision year in my opinion with classics from Germany, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden and *cough* Estonia and another couple of tracks that I love too

Jessica coming 3rd was a massive surprise...I remember almost falling off my chair when Austria said 'United Kingdom...12 Points'

:cry::cry::cry:

It's a guilty pleasure

It's actually one of my top 5 Eurovision songs ever

But it's awful

Denmark and Greece and Sweden all send top notch songs and the winner is a lame disco/Blues Brothers fusion? :(

Different people have different tastes ^_^ I liked those 3 songs a lot too but Everybody has a charm to it, perhaps not in the chorus so much but the verses and bridge are excellent :cheer:

I do agree that the verses are nowhere near as cringeworthy as the chorus, yes

Don't worry I like it too.

Greece and Sweden were good but they're very run-of-the-mill Eurovision.

agree for me it's one of the worst winning songs EVER

But not the worst one - that's gotta be Italy 1990. :puke:

Or Greece 2005. :puke: (Which is odd - I hate that song, but love 2001's, which has the same singer.)

I love the 1990 and especially the 2005 wining songs :o  :P

Hehe oops. Let's rock and roll!

22. SERBIA & MONTENEGRO 2004 - Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane Moje

Serbia and Montenegro entered for the first time in 2004 as an independent country and immediately were among the favourites to win. Personally, I couldn't see anything special about the song, but accepted that for some reason it was a favourite and could do the business. Then the performance came around and it certainly was atmospheric. It was a two horse race throughout the voting between Zeljko and Ruslana, and from the two very contrasting performances, the voters of Europe chose Ruslana. Zeljko has a successful music career back home, but nothing much became of Lane Moje post-Eurovision. However, the 263 points he recieved is enough to get Serbia & Montenegro's debut entry to number 22.

Oh 'Lane Moje' was a fantastic song.
And, if I remember rightly, didn't he also at least cowrite Bosnia's 2006 entry? It would explain the similarity between Lane Moje and Lejla.
He did! :D He had a little hissy fit after Bosnia didn't win though, which frankly smacked of sour grapes -_-
