Actually, ‘Propaganda’ were an Anglo-German band singed to Richard Branson’s ‘Virgin Records’ and included about half of ‘Simple Minds’ at this point in time (the half that was not Jim Kerr or Charlie Burchill).

In addition to this, the big hit single of the time, ‘Heaven Give Me Words’, was co-written by Howard Jones whilst the album also featured Simon Toulson-Clarke from ‘Red Box’.

Even though these are some of my favourite acts, I would think this definition would class this version of the band as being ‘uncool’ in the eyes of ‘Select Magazine’ or ‘Raw’, though ‘Heaven Give Me Words’ and ‘Only One Word’ are amazing records.

So going through to the 1990s Record of The Decade Play-offs is:

1st Janet Jackson - Black Cat 36

(A very comfortable win for Ms Jackson, with a track that was inspired as a female equivalent of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog...)

how did Janet win, tip? Nobody gave her a single point here?
^^ 28 people voted so maybe a lot were PMed instead of posted??

Janet picked up a load of points from UKMix with their larger international & American membership. In comparison BuzzJack Retro voters seem to be more critically acclaimed/Art-Rock/Indie/British biased than UKMix's more commercially mainstream/R'n'B/Heavy Rock/international biased retro voters.

There are currently a couple of other Missing Song votes where the likely winner is going to be due to the vast majority of points coming from UKMix.

ah, right, thanks for clearing that up. I don't even remember that Janet song to be honest.....

Right that's me out of voting. I can't see the point when the views of another forum are swamping whatever goes on here.

Pfffffff.

whilst i kinda agree, i dont think though it makes any sense not to vote... after all, the winners will be the middle of the road pap, but its nice to see what people like.

ps...ive never heard of that janet track either... strange lot on ukmix!

I have that track on an old 7" and I don't actually mind it but I think our votes here mean absolutely nothing if votes from another (larger?) forum mean the votes really are meaningless.

it matters not though, the middle of the road c**p will always win popularity contests.

another forum doesnt bother me as much as FANS of a particular artist coming here simply to vote for them. ie if mariah fans off this board saw her then potentially they could swarm here en mass and vote for the yodeling bint! fans doing this would then give an innaccurate reading, bumping up their fav artist.

tbh i think if there was any suspicion of this, then their votes should be discounted.

1st A-ha Crying In The Rain

2nd Bananarama - Only Your Love

3rd Denise Lopez - Don't You Wanna Be Mine

4th Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You

5th Erasure - Star
