Posted September 30, 200717 yr No monkey business Sheffield quartet not slowing down on CD tour Stuart Derdeyn, The Province Published: Sunday, September 30, 2007 Last time Arctic Monkeys swung through town, the band sold out the Commodore in less than five minutes and completely blew the place apart. This razor-sharp Sheffield act lived up to all the hype heralding its arrival on the U.K. music scene in 2005. Its second CD, Favourite Worst Nightmare, had just arrived, hitting No. 1 in the U.K. albums charts and the single "Brianstorm" was a bona-fide hit. Then came another Mercury Prize nomination and, recently, a killer cover of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" that's all over the web (hear it at Stereogum.com). Did we touch on singer Alex Turner's side project with Miles Kane from the Rascals? Sophomore slump? Nah. Instead Turner, 21, says what's troubling is the media following everything the band members do -- it's understandable, he admits -- but then reporting it wrong. Case in point: The bedbugs in France incident while recording the side project. "Miles and I were recording in France and there were some fleas in his hotel bed," says Turner. "I don't even know how that got out, but suddenly it was a "big infestation" story about me complaining. They weren't even in my room, mate." Speaking of roommates, lately the guys have shared bus space with the Queens of the Stone Age, playing dates in Houston that Turner says were some of the best of the tour to date. He says that while the two acts are ever so different in their sound, the approach to performing is all aggression and intensity. Ditto he and Josh Homme's songwriting styles when they compared notes on it. "A lot of it is taking something that you see and then composing something around it that often has nothing to do with it. A phrase or word comes and sounds like a good part and you go with it, frequently with surprises." Don't expect anything but faves from the first two albums on this tour. Turner says there are only really two new tunes from the third Arctic Monkeys album turning up this go-around. He's not stressing about getting more new material out to an ever-increasing audience familiar with the existing tracks. The pressure is not on since the sales remain strong. "The third album isn't due until next May or so and I've got the side project EP coming out in November from that two-week session in France with a possible full album with Miles coming after that. All told, it's been racing by so fast for the past few years without any breaks, but you learn to deal with it. I haven't been home for awhile, save a few days maybe, in a few years. I'm quite in for a bit of time there after this tour finishes." It will be a well-earned chill-out for the young frontman who is in it for the long-term. derdeyn@png.canwest.com Catch Stu's New Music Tuesdays on Global's Morning News at 8:45 a.m., Tuesdays, and Stu's Weekend Fun File on Global's Weekend Morning and Noon News. I always though Alex and Miles Kane were doing a full album together? :o  But next May for the new album! :o I doubt it will come out then, that's just a rough date they'll have set in my opinion. They wanted the 2nd album to come out January/February time and it didn't so who knows. Very interesting news though. ^_^
October 1, 200717 yr I think it's very good them releasing an album every Year/ 18 months.. It gives them fresh songs and new things to move onto quciker! And it keeps the Fans happy ^_^ Edited October 1, 200717 yr by J♦Ñη¥
October 1, 200717 yr Author I think it's very good them releasing an album every Year/ 18 months.. It gives them fresh songs and new things to move onto quciker! And it keeps the Fans happy ^_^ Problem wth releasing an album every year // 18 months though, is when there's a new album it's not really a "comeback" because they've barely been away. But it's very nice for the fans though. Keeps them happy and it shows they're really in the business for the money. ^_^
October 1, 200717 yr I hate when artists release every year or so :( As it usually results in the Album being $h!t and rushed. But it didnt happen with AM's two albums, so as long as its good i do not care! :D
October 1, 200717 yr Author I hate when artists release every year or so :( As it usually results in the Album being $h!t and rushed. But it didnt happen with AM's two albums, so as long as its good i do not care! :D What I find the difference is though, Alex is constantly writing songs and not just a few; lots and lots of them and. ^_^ Alex might write triple what other other bands do whilst they're on tour and all the songs are of high standards. I remember hearing though that the majority of the songs on the 2nd album were written around the time the first album was being released, or in the few weeks after it.
October 8, 200717 yr :cheer: great news Teddy Picker will probably be the last single from FWN though i guess :(
October 8, 200717 yr Author ^then i have to say" bad news" i suposse if teddy picker is the last single... Yep Teddy Picker will deffo be the last single I reckon, which is good news. It means they won't be churning out singles for the sake of it and there'll be getting started on the new album! :D I'm still expecting a June/July/August release though for next year.
October 16, 200717 yr always good to hear people making loads of good new music, in and out of there main band
October 26, 200717 yr Well I don't really care as long as what they produce is at least almost as good as the first two albums ^_^
December 12, 200717 yr From nme.com Arctic Monkeys plan to head to the studio to record new material soon, and are considering releasing it via one-off non-album singles. Speaking to BBC 6Music, drummer Matt Helders explained that the band are thinking about moving away from conventional album releases. "We've got things written, several new ideas and new songs that are ready to record," he said. "We will do recording early on. We might not necessarily record and then release an album. We might just do little bits at once or [release]singles. "There's really nothing planned. It just depends how it goes, which is a nice change. We can go into the studio and not necessarily have to have something done by, like, the end of the month. It'll be like, 'Just see what happens'" oh la la!

December 12, 200717 yr Author I'm not keen on it either. I HOPE it's just talk and nothing materialises from it.
