MARK OF A STAR

05/10/2007

Producer Mark Ronson's, left, gig in LA's El Rey theatre was a night of stars - both on the stage and off.

The celeb-studded audience which included a pregnant Nicole Richie, Mischa Barton and Brit band The Feeling erupted when Mark invited "the most famous man in the world" on to the stage.

Enter Robbie Williams - who is quite famous. He electrified the crowd with a cover of The Charlatans' The Only One I Know. It was the Robster's first live show for ages - and well worth the wait.

Robbie plays LA

Robbie Williams made a surprise return to the live stage in Los Angeles last night, appearing as a guest star with Mark Ronson.

The super-producer's first ever headline appearance, at the El Rey Theatre, featured a series of other collaborators, performing a number of his reworked classics.

Boston rapper Tiggers, Santogold and Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet, LA songbird Nikka Costa and Daniel Merriweather all turned out.

However, it was the appearance of the UK icon, who now lives in LA, which came as the greatest surprise, playing with Ronson and his seven-piece band.

According to the NME, Robbie ran through a lively version of The Charlatans' "The Only One I Know" at the show, receiving a rapturous reception

And an extract from a Los Angeles Times Review :D

Just then Robbie Williams strode onstage, and the DJ-producer turned solo artist's hyperbole became justifiable.

Williams, one of England's biggest pop stars, elicited the "oohs" and "aahs" Ronson wanted as he celebrated the release of "Version," his second solo album, a collection of reworked English chart hits. The dapper but somewhat subtle 32-year-old bandleader stood to the side playing guitar as Williams, a world-class ham, shadow-boxed through the Charlatans' song "The Only One I Know." Then he was gone, returning the spotlight to his once and future producer.

Robbie Williams Covers The Charlatans

At surprise show with Mark Ronson...

Gigwise via PR

Robbie Williams covered The Charlatans during a surprise return to the stage on Wednesday (October 3rd). Williams made the guest appearance during Mark Ronson’s show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Taking to the stage to a rapturous reception Williams performed a rousing version of Charlatans’, ‘The Only One I Know,’ to the sold out audience.

The show was Ronson’s first ever headlining performance in America and follows the huge success of his album, ‘Versions.’ Performing with a seven piece orchestra, Ronson’s set also included his cover of The Smiths’, ‘Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.

Would'nt it be great if the official site had recorded this professionally, and put it up for us to watch :w00t:

awwww bless you heart ;)

I love how he works everyone up to a frenzy in the end!!! UGH, why can't I be rich so I can fly to LA?!

I wish someone would tip us off when Robbie is appearing on stage.

I would have been over there like a shot
