awful and instantly forgettable year... i liked 'the poacher', and gordon lightfoot 'sundown'. but thats about it.

I love Slade-Far Far Away I had that on repeat for about 5 months straight.:o

in truth it was a good track... i didnt like it then but i was prejudice against slade.. silly but hey ho.

Best ones from the list Wings band on the run and david Bowie 's rebel rebel

I loved ELO's Ma Ma Belle , Mud's Rocket & The Cat Crept In.

Beach Baby by First Class , Lobo's Id love you to want me .

There's a few fun ones there and 1974 was the year that Queen had their first hit with Seven Seas Of Rhye :D It was also the year of Ray Stevens doing The Streak

Arguably the worst year in modern music history of the last 45 years....

Looking at some of the rubbish songs I've included (1974 ROTY) I might yet change my mind but one great song that was a fairly big hit in the USA, that did nothing in the UK that I love is:

Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me

Never heard that one by him, although I loved his song " I saw the light"

1974 was the year that I really got into music and the charts. I'd received a little transistor radio for Christmas and began to take it into junior school on a Tuesday to listen to the chart countdown. I also bought Record Mirror for the first time that April though I didn't begin to buy it regularly until summer 1975. I also started to buy Words and Disco 45 every month!

I'm sure I probably took notice of the charts in 1973 but the first record I can recall actually hearing being announced as #1 was You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me by the New Seekers, simply because I had a radio on which to hear the charts. I also started buying singles in 1974, prior to 1974 I owned no records. My first two singles were birthday presents - Tiger Feet and Devil Gate Drive and the next day I bought Jealous Mind with my some of my birthday money. I think I had about 10 singles by the end of the year - 5 years later I owned well over a thousand singles and by the time I sold my collection in 1987 (I needed the money...) I owned about 4,500 singles!
