October 12, 200717 yr Author How can someone be 'born bad'? You're born with no personality, and as you grow, you build up your own personality, which could be good or bad. oh the niaivety of youth :) you are completely misguided there, you ARE born with a personality, with traits, as the example i highlighted proves.
October 12, 200717 yr Author But you can blame the parents for letting younger children play with them unsupervised. Most parents have no idea about the content of these games i still dont think that its any worse then the violent kids games we played...all of which featured killing 'baddies'... arrows, lazer guns, machine guns, swords.. all imaginery, all created in our minds, all used in play for killing and being killed...
October 12, 200717 yr I just played Sonic and Super Marrio Brothers! :) The same goes for anything tho don't it really...They say if your brought up in an abbusive environment at a young age you're more than likely going to copy what's going on. So you can't just blame one thing here..
October 12, 200717 yr But you can blame the parents for letting younger children play with them unsupervised. Most parents have no idea about the content of these games You certainly can Bri... But I dont really accept that parents dont have some kind of idea... A certificate on the box with '15', '18' or '16+' should give most people with any kind of sense some kind of indication as to whether or not the game is suitable for a particular age group... I'm sick of people blaming the game developers, they give out the information on the box, at the end of the day it's parents buying these bloody things for their kids that are the problem... And I totally resent the BBFC coming along and telling me as a mature adult that I cannot play a certain game, if I want to play "Manhunt 2" I should be able to, but the facts are, that I dont particularly even want to, cos the demo I played for it was a piece of c**p.... But still, I should have the option available....
October 12, 200717 yr I'm fed up with people blaming violence on video games. I'm one of the shyest people I've ever met in my life and I play violent video games. The only time I've gotten into a fight was with my sister before I even knew a playstation/nintendo existed. If the child is violent, anything can trigger.
October 12, 200717 yr I'm not blaming the manufacturers of these games, but as Brian says, there are some irresponsible parents who don't bother checking the comtent and there are some parents that leave 18 rated games and DVDs about the house where their children can get hold of them. I work with primary-age children and I'm constantly shocked by the nature of some films that the children say they've watched. Many youngsters have TVs, DVD players and Games Consoles in their rooms and some are allowed to watch/play unsupervised into the night. One further point is that they are far more explicit than in days gone by and youngsters, especially primary age, watching them concerns me.
October 13, 200717 yr My nephew started playing them at around 12 years of age. The only time I noticed any violence from him was when he'd chuck the handpiece on the floor through frustration until he learnt to play the game competently. He plays with his friends most of the time, so it is a kind of social thing despite what some people say. I much prefer him and his friends to be battling their daily frustrations out in a game than in real life on each other. :D
October 13, 200717 yr My nephew started playing them at around 12 years of age. The only time I noticed any violence from him was when he'd chuck the handpiece on the floor through frustration until he learnt to play the game competently. Exactly. That's what I do too, not pick up a gun and re-enact Columbine or something. People aren't surprised by violence anymore, except for a few. People want to hide children from these things but the children are seeing it anyway so I guess the parents don't care. Not even the shop keepers care. I went to one shop and he wouldn't sell me the 18 game so I went to another shop two stores away and got it anyway. I haven't killed anyone. Children aren't so innocent anymore. "I'm not blaming the manufacturers of these games" I wasn't talking to you. I said "people" (unless your real name is People then I apologise).
October 13, 200717 yr I don't know how tight shops are with selling games now, but I bought Perfect Dark when it came out (which is an 18) when I was about 11/12 with no questions from the shop .
October 14, 200717 yr The only time I noticed any violence from him was when he'd chuck the handpiece on the floor through frustration nail on the head...I don't think it's the violent content as much as the absolute, total frustration of the things. I absolutely loathe ALL video games - both PC and console ones - I find them a real bore, however complex or pretty they may be. I always wanted to tear the house apart or put my foot through the screen whenever I played them with the tenseness and anger they create. Of course, for a kid to go out on the street and revreate the things they see in these games, they have to have a violent temperament anyway - so whilst I hate censorship and you can't fully blame these games - I think the tension, anger and irritation the games cause can certainly make a kid want to go out and kick someone's head in or put their boot in the side of a car. Of course, in an ideal world, parents would be responsible and prohibit their kids playing them until they're of reasonable age - but most parents are thicker than their children these days and many more couldn't give a hoot what their brats are up to......
