Posted October 12, 200717 yr Madonna is overvalued, Bank Of America warns 12 October, 2007 Source: MW By Anna Goldie The Bank of America has warned Warner not to try and match the reported $120m (£60m) deal between Live Nation and Madonna, saying that the figure is too high a price to pay for the artist. The bank has called the reported 10-year deal, which would include three studio albums, touring and merchandise sales, “more of a bold statement by Live Nation that it wants to quickly get deep in the music business, and less an example of Warner Music’s inability to close a good deal.” As a result the bank is maintaining its buy rating for the music group. The bank also believes that Warner runs the risk of overpaying for the artists “that does not seem to be generating the revenue to support the contract being discussed” and believes the loss of Madonna from the music group’s roster will not impact its near-term sales. Madonna is set to release one more album under Warner next year.
October 12, 200717 yr Author New details of rumoured Madonna deal 11 October, 2007 By Anna Winston Speculation continues to mount today that Madonna will leave Warner Music Group to sign a new deal with Live Nation. The deal is said to be imminent and is estimated to be worth in excess of $120m (£58.8m). It would end a 24-year relationship between Madonna and Warner, who she signed with after her debut release in 1983. Details printed in the Wall Street Journal yesterday suggest that Live Nation will receive a mix of stock and cash in the deal, which would entitle them to tour promotion, merchandise and licensing rights as well as the rights to Madonna’s next three albums. It would be the first time international concert promoter Live Nation had ventured solo into the world of recorded music, although the company has a long standing relationship with Madonna through her live tours which it already promotes. Madonna is still committed to another studio album release with Warner, expected early next year. Warner Music Group and Live Nation declined to comment.
