October 19, 200717 yr I think the very most extreme thing to happen should be that it becomes legal to sell them only to registered event holders. However, I can't see that happening and I do think anyone should be able to buy them - we just need better marketing campaigns and education in schools as to exactly how dangerous they are when messed around with.
October 19, 200717 yr Perhaps an idea would be to restrict the time period in which they're available, I've seen shops selling fireworks for the past couple of weeks now, I dont really see any justification for it tbh... Maybe restrict the time they're sold up until the week before Nov 5th..? Might stop a lot of the problems....
October 19, 200717 yr NO! So many great childhood memories from family bonfires. Sparklers ;) Don't need massive great bloody catherine wheels and so on I have bought up several dogs and they are scared $h!tless by fireworks as are dogs of people I know Fireworks should be restricted to 2 nights a year and public displays only
October 19, 200717 yr dont asians use fireworks for dvali or summut?... maybe the restiction would be the sensible solution, on time selling then and time allowed for letting them off.

They should not be available for the public to buy other than a two weeks period up to Bonfire night. Otherwise, you should need a special licence to be able to buy them (ie. as part of a public display for celebrating the opening of a new garden centre, etc). Whilst it should be regarded as a criminal offence if they are released more than a week after bonfire night without a license.
October 24, 200717 yr Possibly - but then if they were banned wouldn't people get hold of them illegally? f***sake, is anyone that addicted to hearing synthetic bangs that they'd go that far? These aren't drugs we're talking about. Nobody ever buys fireworks at other times of the year, the only people who'd lose out are the companies who make, and charge an absolute fortune for, them.
October 30, 200717 yr  I don't think they should be banned as they bring a lot of fun to families, especially those with young children. Why should these people be punished because of some stupid irresponsible teenagers. I do think, however that there should be a minimum age of 21 for buying fireworks and that you should have to present i.d. when buying them and that they should only be sold from licensed firework shops. Also, they should only go on sale about a week before bonfire night and taken off the shelves around a week or so after bonfire night.
October 30, 200717 yr No we shouldn't ban fireworks, because home-made fireworks are much more dangerous. Why ban them? If the idiotic chavs are stupid enough to fire fireworks at themselves, perhaps they'd be stupid enough to fall into the Tyne? Or fall of building? Solution: let's ban rivers and buildings too...? And as for "do we still need to celebrate something that happened hundreds of years ago?" what you mean like Christmas?

The sale of fireworks is restricted to a three week period ahead of 5 November and a short period over New Year The possession of fireworks by under 18s is a criminal offence. There is also a restriction of 120 decibels on fireworks. If you really saw shops selling fireworks that early they were breaking the law. Many shops have been displaying them - but not selling them until the legal date.

November 2, 200717 yr Yes Ban them They are dangerous in the wrong hands I do like a good firework show and Love central London display at new year woo
November 2, 200717 yr The other night whilst walking with friends a bunch of chavs set off a firework across a road! It exploded right in front of us. If we would of been walking any faster we'd be in hospital now. Raise the age limit to buy them or ban them except for fireworks displays.
November 3, 200717 yr question if fireworks were invented today, would they ever be allowed to be on sale to the general public?
November 4, 200717 yr Surely its against the LAW to light fireworks at this time of the night, blinking fireworks are popping off.
November 4, 200717 yr Surely its against the LAW to light fireworks at this time of the night, blinking fireworks are popping off. yes it is... but how tf can anyone enforce it?
November 4, 200717 yr How is it illegal at midnight ? Surely that means that New Years Eve fireworks are illegal then and more go off to bring in the New Year in private residences than celebrate Guy Falkes Chavs around here were letting them off till about 11 last night
November 4, 200717 yr How is it illegal at midnight ? It was well after midnight, it was 12:40am, and it was not even Bonfire Night
November 4, 200717 yr definatly, infact just a few years ago, when i was only young, (10 or 11) my mate the same age as me brought some fireworks, one bad thing was, he got sold fireworks at such a young age which is illegal and it led him to messing around with fireworks and having a firework blowup into his face and he was hopsitalised, another problem with selling fireworks to the public is disturbance, i like my sleep, i only understand fireworks going off so late on new years its also quite ironic how we celebrate burning guy fawkes at the stake by setting off gunpowder, which is why he got burned to death anyway
