October 18, 200717 yr Author Martin O'Neill should have got the job last summer. If he had then England would already have qualified - he specialises in cup competitions and had considerable European experience during his time with Celtic. He'd get my vote this time around too. Also Sam Allardyce specialised in the transfer market and in bringing experienced foreign players - he can't do either of those as England boss now can he? he also specialises in drawing every match :P
October 18, 200717 yr O'Neill won't be manager. The FA would have to pay too much to release him from his contract from Villa, and add that to the fact they rejected him when he applied when it was avaliable...
October 18, 200717 yr Author the fact this is the only time Mourinho will be available for a long time should make The FA wake up and sniff the coffee. That's my dream though
October 18, 200717 yr the fact this is the only time Mourinho will be available for a long time should make The FA wake up and sniff the coffee. That's my dream though  Is that the same Mourinho, who could not win the European Champions League in three seasons with Europe's most expensive & arguably the best team? In other words, a manager who under achieves with a World Class squad of players. So that would be no change from the last 30+ years then  We need a manager who over achieves with a poor team. So lets get in my first choice from last time around Martin O'Neill with Stuart Pearce as his #2 (as he put forward in his application for the job). Just look at the great English players they have developed in the last few years for proof. (Which is why I laugh at (stupid) suggestions to appoint Wenger or Sam Allardyce). You know it makes sense to appoint two former Notts Forest captains as it would be like having Brian Clough managing England from beyond the grave. Which is probably why the FA bulked at the idea! If we are talking Fantasy land, then let's appoint Jurgen Klinnsmann, but that is not going to happen, is it.
October 18, 200717 yr Stuart Pearce won't be England manager (or #2) just yet. I think he's just settling down now as manager on the U21 squad and is doing a good job so far, and at present I think it's too soon for him to England manager. Give it 5 years or so, then I think he'd be an excellent choice as he'll already know a large basis of the England squad from when he was manager of the U21 team (well providing they make it through to the senior squad)
October 18, 200717 yr Chelsea prolly would have won the champions leauge if it wasn't for the dodgy decision with that liverpool goal that never crossed the line. Look at what Moriniho did with FC Porto- European also-rans turned into Champions Leauge winners, he could do the same with England. He won every trophy possible with them in the sort space of time he was managing them. Edited October 18, 200717 yr by Marcus
October 18, 200717 yr I disagree McClaren brings no spark to the team... And his desicion making has been Awful -_- Even though I'm Scottish, I agree - would you really play a 3-5-2 system against a team who have never lost at home?
October 19, 200717 yr Are Lippi and Capello both still unemployed? World class and no compensation there. McLaren should never have been given it because he;s a coach and not a manager. Richie is right in saying O'Neill should've been given it. He's one of the best managers in a generation and will turn Villa into a force again. Mourinho and Wenger would be good choices too. Ideallly we would have an English manager but there really is no one worthy, Stuart Pearce will be good after a couple more years with the U21s but not yet.
