I realize that Halloween is the next holiday we have to look forward to, but for just a moment, I'd like to talk about Thanksgiving.

 

For as long as I can remember, U2 have released some sort of treat for their fans the week of Thanksgiving. I remember one year watching the Elevation concert on VH1 and then setting the alarm clock for dawn the following morning to venture out for the exclusive free Best Buy single. Another year it was a condensed version of the Slane concert, which was then put on DVD, and this year, we'll get the re-release of The Joshua Tree in an abundance of sparkly formats.

 

I love this 'tradition' even if it has more to do with industry marketing dates than it does American holidays. I now anticipate Larry, Bono, The Edge and Adam as much as I do the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie that make up my weekend.

 

Simply delicious.

 

And speaking of the re-release of The Joshua Tree, the great thing about that is that fans don't have to worry about liking it or not.

 

Don't get me wrong—I will always anticipate a new U2 song or album—but anytime something new debuts, there is that 'duck and cover' element of fear that anything fresh could disappoint. In this case, we have the luxury of knowing that no matter what we think of the packaging, the content will be good.

 

And for the record, I'm even excited about the packaging.
