The 5,6,7,8's

I'm sure most of you know them from the film Kill Bill, and the rather fantastic 'Woo Hoo Song' They were one of my first tastes of Japanese music, although i didn't really begin to appreciate them for some years after my first encounter with them. They gained there name due to the fact they sing songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. I believe they were quite popular in the 80s, although their popularity died down [and they disbanded] until the Kill Bill movie gained them international success.

So why do I like them? I think the singer has a really unique voice. Sometimes it sounds really awful, but imo it is really raw, and suits their surf punk vibe to the ground <3. i also think that their use of engrish is rather fantastic, on a lighter note

The Gossip

I've been a fan of these since about summer last year, when SITWOC just hit me, it was so instant, though I never thought they'd become as big as they have. Beth is an AMAZING live performer, and not only has a powerfuly voice, she really knows how to use it. She's such an icon <3. I found the new album very eclectic as well. My personal favourite song of theirs is 'Yr Mangled Heart'

Ayaka

A girl who may seem to be quite low on my list, but I have no doubt that over time she'll rise up. Ayaka is one of the most exciting newcomers in Japanese music at the moment. Her debut album was the first female studio album to go platinum in years, and her first single was the first female debut to get to #1 since Utada Hikaru waay back in 1999 [look out for her in my list..] She seems unique in many ways; her voice and style to name a few. her music is also very diverse. 'First Message' is a great album, and I have even higher hopes for her sophmore, especially since i've loved the singles so far. She has also been voted the female of the future generation.
