October 26, 200717 yr and house building was curtailed until about 10-12 years ago, its been booming ever since. Yeah, but how much of it is Council or Social housing Rob, THAT is my main argument.. The total lack of any meaningful Social Housing, Housing Co-Operatives, Corporation housing projects, etc, it's all PRIVATE for the most part. Oh, and of course the endless building of Office blocks, etc.... I seem to remember the NU LABOR party promising affordable, social housing to key workers such as nurses, teachers, fire fighters, doctors, etc.... Still waiting for that one to materialise.... Sorry mate, but the crisis in the PUBLIC sector of housing is entirely of the Govt's doing as far as I'm concerned..... As soon as the Treaty of Rome, along with freedom of movement within the EU (which I totally support by the way...), was ratified, they should've known damn well that people would be migrating all over the place, social and public housing projects should have been up and running to meet with the demand from day one... And I do believe it was OUR own Govt who was at the forefront of expanding the EU to incorporate the former Eastern Bloc countries in the first goddam place..... As a fifteen year old kid sitting in my Political Studies class at school, I knew even then damn fine that selling off council houses and opting out of local authority control would end up having a disastrous effect on housing in this country (lots of council houses which could have been renovated were sold off and BULLDOZED by property speculators who got the land cheap.... <_< ) And I was totally right..... :P Shame you as a 48 year old man cant seem to see that.....

October 27, 200717 yr oi!...im 50 not 48! wrong again! :P there was never going to be housing for the masses that came. But there would certainly be enough social housing for those who are stuck permanently on waiting lists.... and you still haven't addressed the broken promises this Govt made to build rent-controlled, affordable housing to key public workers who work in London and the SE.. You make way too many excuses for these lying, bureaucratic w/ankers mate.... Tory. Labour. It's the same old lies all the time mate....
October 27, 200717 yr so the waiting lists would be shorter!...lol. housing is eating into the countryside now at an alarming rate, problems? well yes there is. farmers are now not being paid subsedies for leaving 'set aside' fields. this will have a detrimental effect on our wildlife. plus they are now growing crops for 'bio fuel', this has resulted in grain becoming more expensive. bread, cerials, etc are now more expensive. this rise will inevitably increase as more land is being taken out of production. there HAS to be population control....
October 27, 200717 yr Author I think the SNP up here in Scotland are going to change the law whereby the sale of council houses will be stopped. Not sure how they will achieve this, it might just be a political soundbite. If they do this will it be a good idea or not?
October 29, 200717 yr tbh brian, im not in scotland so i not sure im qualified to comment. didnt thatcher introduce this scheme to 'get rid' of ageing houses that were due to cost councils heavily in maintenance? it wasnt only a vote catching scheme, but it was about the cost of running them. mind you i think it backfired inasmuch that the houses that were going to need renovation werent the ones being bought! lol.
October 29, 200717 yr interesting.... cameron was on today about 'unsustainable population increase'... perhaps he read my post! lol.
October 29, 200717 yr and what tf is wrong with liking being ENGLISH? (or scotish :P) whats wrong with our history, 'merry olde englande'?. im proud of our heritage for all its faults. we will become a heritageless, soulless, bast*rd country like america... we have a proud tradition as one of the world leaders in the modern world and if we werent so bloody advanced we would not let the buggers in! The problem here isn't so much migration, but the group of migrants who don't WANT to attempt to integrate with Britain. There are plenty of migrants who have happily adopted British values, I don't think allowing them in is really going to harm out heritage and culture. The reason British culture has been eroded isn't really down to the migrants; it's down to the spineless way our leaders have DELIBERATELY tried to block Britishness. How many times do you hear of a council that has banned mention/display of a Britishness in case it offends? And half the time the minority groups are MORE offended by the idea of them being used as an excuse to attack British culture, rather than the culture itself. More people in the UK also means more people to work in hospitals, surely? Well not when the NHS can't afford to employ anyone. I know plenty of people who studied medicine, nursing, physio, occupational therapy, etc. at university and have struggled to find the jobs. The NHS is fukked because of the changes the Tories brought in during the 80s and 90s... Enough money actually gets pumped into it to treat ALL patients who seek it, trouble is, the growing, unchecked admin and bureaucracy is what's draining the resources, which is why every time the Govt talks about "putting more money into the NHS" I just have to laugh tbh.. More money into the Bureaucracy more like, only about half of it will make it to the patients themselves.. Trust managers awarding themselves pay rises, bonuses, drafting in outside "financial consultants" who are costing a bloody fortune... Used to be that the doctors and the ward matrons ran the daily functions of NHS, now it's a bunch of beancounters and managers.... Well, I dont go and see a sodding accountant or a manager when I get hit by a car, know what I mean....? The trust system was the worst thing that could've happened to the NHS..... Bang on. I'd be interested to see how much money in total has been spent on "consultants". Or the national NHS database scheme which is in utter shambles. So, what you gonna do then, deny treatment for a tax-paying immigrant while at the same time bend over backwards for a waster who's never contributed a single penny into the system??? Fukk off, that's totally wrong and you know it.... I'll say again, if anyone should be chucked out the country it's those fukkin' chav wasters who contribute nothing other than spitting out brats every nine months that we have to pay for..... I've a damn sight more tolerance for a hard working immigrant and their family than I do a bunch of fukkin' wasters and their feral offspring - BOTTOM LINE..... Get rid of chavs, NOT the hard working migrants..... I love the idea of removing the scroungers, but where would we send them? Why should another country have to suffer our own lazy $h!tes, when we're busy complaining about taking theirs? Edited October 29, 200717 yr by Shoat
October 30, 200717 yr What is a CHAV exactly? I hear Brits use this term often and THINK I know what it is......the equivalent to the american term - Trailor Trash? Can only white people be a CHAV or is it spread out amongst the nationalities???

Can only white people be a CHAV or is it spread out amongst the nationalities??? I've been trying to understand this term for years :D I think it is comparable to American "trailer trash" or "white trash" but as far as I can tell, "chavs" are a strictly British phenomenon... Hope this doesn't offend any Brits, and I post it mostly in jest, but this link might provide a useful visual: http://www.jacatu.de/wbb2/t7850-swedish-ve...nightclubs.html

I was thinking about sticking them on some desert island somewhere.... Or maybe Guantanamo....???

Can only white people be a CHAV or is it spread out amongst the nationalities??? CHAV is an acronym, it stands for Council House Assorted Vermin... Actually I dont really like the term tbh, plenty of decent, hard-working people live in council houses and estates... I actually prefer the Scottish equivalent - NED, standing for Non-Eductated Delinquent... Sums these ignorant people up perfectly.....
October 30, 200717 yr Bang on. I'd be interested to see how much money in total has been spent on "consultants". Or the national NHS database scheme which is in utter shambles. Over two billion pounds of taxpayers money was wasted by Nu Labor on an NHS IT system that basically didn't work, and did we actually get any of that money back...?? Did we fukk...... <_< Ludicrous really, if PC World flogs me a faulty computer, I take it back and they refund me or exchange it, the folks responsible for that utter shambles simply walked off with 2 billion in taxpayers money.... We should be damn sight more angered by that total misappropriation of NHS funds than by tax paying immigrants using the NHS.....

Exactly, it's like with the whole Christmas lights thing.. Various councils use Muslims being offended as their excuse, but since when do Politicians actually give a damn what ordinary people think anyway....??? 2 million people march against war, nothing.. A half dozen or so Muslims complain about a few light, suddenly they spring into action????  Oh, PUH-LEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZEEEEE....... I dont buy it.... I do believe that people have legit right to complain about Christmas lights though, not on spurious religious grounds, but on grounds that they seem to be going up earlier and earlier every sodding year, not to mention the power that's being wasted (and it's WE who pay for this sh!t ultimately through our Council tax let's not forget....). I find it utterly offensive that Christmas lights are going up in sodding NOVEMBER these days, when in the past it would be only in the few weeks before Christmas.... But i digress here.... Your first point about some migrants who dont want to integrate with Britain is a valid one, but bear in mind that hundreds of thousands of ex-Pat from this country who make no attempt whatsoever to integrate with their host nations, we can be just as bad and just as unwilling.... ;)

Not even November, and the lights are up! Agree on our ex-pats, Brits abroard really do not have a good reputation, I have to admit even when I go on holiday it's sometimes taken for granted that all the locals can speak English. But then that's really down to the foreign governments to decide if they're happy to allow that to happen.
